I'm not sure anyone can really justify not being a member. It's not like there's an alternative.

By this logic, it was fine for everyone in Germany to join the Nazi's circa 1939.

Brilliant

Of course the real comparison is refusing to support the people trying to defeat the Nazi party, becuase you didn't really like one of their press releases

Yeah but at that point they looked odds-on. And who doesn't want to back a winner?

I'm a member. I haven't had much to show for it. But they need support. They are better than nothing.

I'm not terribly impressed wit their ideas or professionalism though.

Trust Arazel to bring Nazi metaphors into a thread about party membership...

Oh hang on..damn - my one chane to use that line and...

I'd be interested to know the reasons behind people not being members.

I'll be the first to hold my hand up and say i'm skeptical of some things SOS do and don't agree with them, but it's an organised show of support. Apathy is getting us nowhere

definitely agree, although i'd assume the majority of responses to this question would be along the lines that SOS don't represent their interests. i find that viewpoint really difficult to understand.

i'll hold my hands up and admit i've been a shamefully innactive member in as much as attending meetings. and, like yourself, i've not always agreed with their course of action.

it's a difficult task for the people behind the union to undertake alongside having full-time jobs and family commitments. i don't understand some of the contempt they receive from our own fans.

Especially ridiculous accusations of doing it for fame and fortune.

exactly. and, ownership issue aside, given the way football is being run in this country and has been going since the inception of the premier league, a supporter led representation of our own issues was long overdue.

Not a member, can't really justify it either, haven't really agreed with the personell changes since the thing started, but can't argue with the aims, and only have small quibbles with the methods used.

This thread will be studiously ignored by most people who haven't joined by the way, so it won't be an accurate indication.

I joined only recently.

I dont empathise with a lot of the stuff they seem to prioritise, and I think that fan ownership of the club should be the raison d'etre of the union. And as such I didnt join because it wasnt a body that I felt represented me.

However I needed to take a wider perspective and it took me some time to realise that now and for the foreseeable future the most important thing is to establish the SOS (with SL IMO) as a well supported, well mandated representative body that the club, the media, the authorities and the public cannot ignore.

Like it or not, the only way to do that is to join.

If SOS waive the joining fee I think it would be a good thing. Not cos we cant afford 10 or 15 quid but because it makes people unneccessrily suspicious. And we need signed up members more than a few bob to run coaches IMO.

Oh ffs.

How many times does it have to be said?

THE COACHES ARE PAID FOR BY PEOPLE WHO GET ON THEM. NO MONEY COMES OUT OF THE UNION POT. If they're full, they'll even turn a slight profit.

They're self sufficient.

No joining fee by the way and there's absolutely nothing done. If there was no joining fee those billboards (love them or hate them) wouldn't have been made, there'd have been no leaflets handed out the other night etc etc etc.

Good post. I agree with the joining fee thing. They could make the membership a donation with suggested amount £10. I think most would pay the £10, but you'd also be more likey get those who are skeptical on board. They could make it you only get the stuff sent to you if you donate £10 if it would help admin costs. Plus you always have the chance someone could donate £100+.

I appreciate and commend what they're doing, even If certain aspects of the campaign could be approached differently in my own and others, opinion. But I haven't joined, yet.
