Epic Swindle Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Now that the Beckham circus is thankfully over who would be your 23? I think there's a few versatile players who could cover a number of positions, maybe Milner as cover for both RM and RB and Lescott as cover for both CB and LB, allowing us to overload the midfield and forward positions. Keepers: Green, James, Hart. Defenders: Johnson, Terry, Ferdinand, Cole, Lescott, Brown, Upson. Midfield: Carrick, Gerrard, Barry, Lampard, Walcott, Cole, Young, Milner, Lennon (if fit). Forwards: Rooney, Crouch, Defoe, Cole.

Gilps Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Green, James, Hart. Johnson, Terry, Ferdinand, A Cole (if fit), Brown (if fit), Upson, Lescott, Baines. Gerrard, Lampard, Barry, Carrick, Lennon, Milner, Wright-Phillips, J Cole (if fit) Rooney, Heskey, Crouch, Defoe
Epic Swindle Posted March 16, 2010 Author Posted March 16, 2010 I think J Cole is close to full fitness now. Lennon is the one who could miss out.
Gilps Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Lenoon will go if he's even remotely fit. He was established as first choice before his injury and none of the other contenders have exactly staked a strong claim in his absence.
baz2107 Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 GK: James, Hart, Green DF: Johnson, A.Cole, Terry, Ferdinand, Upson, Warnock Jagielka (if fit) else Lescott, MF: Lennon, Gerrard, Lampard, Barry, Carrick, J. Cole, Johnson, Walcott, Milner FW: Rooney, Defoe, Crouch, Heskey, If Joe Cole is still struggling for form take Agbonlahor as extra striking option
oakie bob Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 I just hope Gerrard and Johnson both get an injury in the last league game and cant go
Epic Swindle Posted March 16, 2010 Author Posted March 16, 2010 (edited) Adam Johnson is a good shout. I'd possibly take him instead of Young. Though he might take Downing (shudder). Edited March 16, 2010 by Hansen
Hassony Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Cappelo is a true genius if he can win the world cup with those keepers/ defence (Glo Jo apart)
Billy Dane Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 With Torres and Villa up front, I think we've got a great chance
Cobs Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 i see most are choosing to leave out Gareth Bale too - bit harsh
baz2107 Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Adam Johnson is a good shout. I'd possibly take him instead of Young. Though he might take Downing (shudder). just think a left sided midfielder gives and extra option and more balance and definitely wouldn't take Downing. Also gives the option of playing Gerrard right side instead
anfield11 Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Cappelo is a true genius if he can win the world cup with those keepers/ defence (Glo Jo apart) You may as well include the forwards, bar Rooney.
Stevie H Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Green, James, Hart. Johnson, Terry, Ferdinand, A Cole (if fit), Brown (if fit), Upson, Lescott, Baines. Gerrard, Lampard, Barry, Carrick, Lennon, Milner, Wright-Phillips, J Cole (if fit) Rooney, Heskey, Crouch, Defoe reckon that's about right, though i think walcott will edge out wright-phillips and i think adam johnson is england's most likely wild card. possibly at joe cole's expense. that defence and 'keeper are not enough to win a world cup.
JonShar Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Can't believe Ashley Young isn't a shoe in. Surely he's got to be in the squad considering the dearth of talent on the left wing.
John am Rhein Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 I thought this thread was going to be about the England squad for the toilet
Redkop Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 England fans are bound to be chuffed to bits with this.... NEVILLE AFPMSL
floyd Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 (edited) Should pick this squad, and it might get my support. Last time I bothered with anything to do with England 1 GK Peter Shilton --Derby County 2 DF Gary Stevens --Glasgow Rangers (SCO) 3 DF Stuart Pearce--Nottingham Forest 4 MD Neil Webb --Manchester United 5 DF Des Walker--Nottingham Forest 6 DF Terry Butcher--Glasgow Rangers (SCO) 7 MD Bryan Robson --Manchester United 8 MD Chris Waddle--Olympique Marseille (FRA) 9 FW Peter Beardsley --Liverpool 10 FW Gary Lineker--Tottenham Hotspur 11 FW John Barnes--Liverpool 12 DF Paul Parker -- Queens Park Rangers 13 GK Chris Woods --Glasgow Rangers (SCO) 14 DF Mark Wright --Derby County 15 DF Tony Dorigo --Chelsea 16 MD Steve McMahon -- Liverpool 17 FW David Platt --Aston Villa 18 MD Steve Hodge-- Nottingham Forest 19 MD Paul Gascoigne --Tottenham Hotspur 20 MD Trevor Steven --Glasgow Rangers (SCO) 21 FW Steve Bull -- Wolverhampton Wanderers 22 GK Dave Beasant -- Chelsea Edited March 17, 2010 by floyd
Stevie H Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 cracking squad that. england's world cup 22 and the team that supplied the most players was glasgow rangers.
Gilps Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 Selections during qualifying would suggest that Capello sees his first choice 11 as being something very close to: Green, Johnson, Ferdinand, Terry, Cole, Barry, Lennon, Lampard, Gerrard, Rooney, Heskey Other than Rooney, there's not one of them who hasn't had major question marks over their fitness, form, or both this season. Have they really got that geood a chance?
CarraLegend Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 I was a bit nervous they'd go far then someones lists the squad or team and its like nah, not a chance. Like you mention theres form and fitness doubts about all the players bar Rooney, theres a string of hapless goalkeepers, players like Terry, Lampard, Gerrard woefully out of form and people who arent very good like Barry and Emile Heskey. Theyve got a very good manager but he isnt a miracle worker and cant just flick a switch and make them all back to their best.
Epic Swindle Posted March 17, 2010 Author Posted March 17, 2010 Crouch has got to be a shoe in to start. He's always a threat and brings other players into the game far better than Heskey. It's also time to stop fiddling about trying to fit Stevie and Lampard into the same side and drop the latter and play a natural wide player. You could even play Barry tucked in on the left. Green Johnson Ferdinad Terry Cole Lennon Carrick Gerrard Cole Crouch Rooney

Have they really got that geood a chance? Change Crouch for Heskey, and Wright-Phillips for Lennon and that doesn't look too bad. Apart from Green, and assuming Terry has his head together. Oh, and Lampard actually shows up, and... Nah, feck it. Out in the quarters. On pens.
