Because I believe Kelly deserves a go after his impressive performance against Lyon.

 

I believe Johnson offers a lot more in attack and defence than Kuyt.

 

I also dont rate Kuyt as a midfielder/ wide player.

On top of that I think you underestimate the partnership of Johnson and Kuyt. Think of it as a traditional defensive defender and a proper winger, only back to front. I think it would be quite impressive once they get used to each other.

I see no issue with a setup that has Johnson bombing forward, and Kuyt being more restricted and covering for him.

I don't really care what team is put out (within reason - i.e. I don't want Degen and Aurelio in midfield infront of our full backs...). We have lots of good players, but they need to be sent out with attacking tactics, rather than with the sole aim of trying to avoid defeat.

That's about the size of it. The players need bringing out of themselves, to regain trust in their own ability to take the game to the oppo. Covering up only goes so far and works for so long.
