Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp believes the race for a position in the Premier League’s top four will go all the way, but claims all the pressure should be on Manchester City and Liverpool because of the money they have spent. Spurs are vying with aforementioned, Aston Villa and potentially Everton FC, and while the White Hart Lane supremo believes they have a chance to join the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea FC and Arsenal FC in the Champions League this season, Redknapp suggests it is too tight to call.Tottenham Hotspur face Everton FC this weekend, knowing a victory would all but rule David Moyes’ side out of the running, but he believes all the pressure should be on Manchester City, who face Premier League leaders Chelsea FC tomorrow and Liverpool FC, who play Blackburn Rovers, because of the money they have spent on their respective sides in recent years. Redknapp intimates Spurs, Aston Villa and Everton FC have not outlaid as much on their sides as the aforementioned pair.

 

The Tottenham manager expressed his surprise at Liverpool FC’s woes this season, but suggested they would be boosted by the return of Glen Johnson and Fernando Torres, but claimed the pressure should be on them and Manchester City because they have spent more than them and their nearest rivals Aston Villa and Everton.

 

The Tottenham Hotspur manager told the Sun: “At the moment, four teams are trying to get the fourth Premier League spot.”

 

“I would not rule out Everton - but if we beat them on Sunday, it will be very tough for them as the gap between us would be 11 points.”

 

“But I don't see the end of the season being straight-forward. I think there's every chance we will go into the final game still not knowing who will finish fourth.”

 

“I didn't expect Liverpool to be where they are this season - my prediction was they would challenge for the title, particularly after last season.”

 

“But they have Fernando Torres playing again while Glen Johnson is also returning to fitness.”

 

“That's a bonus for them and I'm sure everyone at Anfield fancies their chances of making the Champions League again.”

 

“Compared to ourselves and Aston Villa, I still believe there is more pressure on Liverpool and Manchester City, when you consider what they spent in the summer.”

Hurts me to say this, but I think he was only referring to Manchester City with the spending remark. He had already explained why he thinks Liverpool should be doing better.

Don't know why everyone hates Redknapp so much, he really doesn't bother me at all and personally I can't see a great deal wrong with what he's said here.

In a way he's correct. We have spent more than spurs, strictly speaking, insofar transactions of revenue between club accounts is concerned.

 

When you take into the wedges that go in his pocket though, we're summat like £16.2m behind Spurs in net spend this summer

f*** off you wobbly faced t***. Spurs have got about as much chance of finishing 4th as Everton have of winning the Europa League so there's no need for the mind games.

Agreed. I've got no problem with him, and he's always been pretty generous when he talks about Liverpool.

You'd think that if Harry was concerned about other teams in getting 4th he would have held on to that Robbie Keane chap. Last I'd heard he was 'too good not to be starting games'.

 

Which still might be the stupidest quote I've ever heard given the context.

He's a media darling and gets an easy ride despite having a questionable relationship with fraud, whilst our manager gets ruined.
