CHRed Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Rumours that Rafa will replace 6/7 players in the Summer. WHo will be replaced? What would be your choices to go/keep with no sitting on the fence To KeepReinaCarragherGerrardTorresBeniMashAggerPachecoKellyJohnson To goEl Zar - been here 2-3 years, I stil have not seen the potential Degan - waste of £40k per weekSpearing - his level is in the championshipDarby - as spearingItange - waste of £40k per week (no wonder we don't have any money)Plessis To be replaced - if we want to go from nearly men to championsKuyt - we need more on the right in terms of creativityAquilani Reira - got potential but not consistent enoughBabel - as ReiraNgog - not sure will fulfil potentialThe Greek - good back up?Insua - can he step up and learn from these run of games in terms of defending betterLucas - can he add goals and assists to his gameAurelio - too injury proneMaxi
honourablegeorge Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Kuyt's more than worth hsi place in the team, never mind squad. Brilliant, useless lump that he is. If Ngog was English, he'd be releasing his autobiography at thsi stage. Deserves his time to develop. Aquilani has barely started his career. Is Itandje still f***in' here? Keep Riera unless we can get a better genuinely left footed, genuinely wide player. Lucas is a fine squad player. Don't necessarily want him first choice, mind. Would consider selling Masch for a big offer, if Rafa was guaranteed the proceeds.

Alonso was in the tam for 5 years yet no title. So, is it more about tactics than personnel. Do we need Villa instead of NgogDo we need Joe Cole instead of Kuyt etc etc
Tones Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Kuyt, Ngog, Lucas wont be going anywhere. Also unlikely we will loose The Greek, and Maxi, as theyre just here. Not sure where we get the money to bring in 6 or 7 replacements either.

baz2107 Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 you're not going to win a title replacing 16 players!! agree on the 6 you said to go, on the replaced list though there are several players on there who we need, and how much would it cost to replace all of these? Kuyt- vital member of the squad, there are games I wouldn't play himAquilani- I'd not be fussed either way, if he goes and we get enough back for him then fine, I'd like him to prove everyone wrong thoughRiera- a good squad player, gives us width and makes the pitch a lot bigger, we play at our best when Riera is playing wellBabel- probably sell, unless he can prove otherwise between now and MayNgog- Is a good 3rd choice striker, not 2nd choice and needs a partner when Torres is out, hopefully Jovanovic will sort thatGreek- Has been reliable in recent weeks, would much rather keep as 4th choice, sell Skrtel if anyone and replace with a top centre back. We wouldn't keep Carra, Agger, Skrt and another top defender happy plus we'd get a bigger fee for SkrtelInsua- should b 2nd choice left back in my eyes, think he's suffering because of team form, would be better as back up to a quality left back (a must in the summer)Lucas- Not his biggest fan but has come on miles this season, needs to impose himself on games more, but to sell would be stupid, he's not Alonso, but either Aquilani or a new signing needs to take that mantleAurelio- Agree, contract is up so unless he wants pay as you play he should goMaxi- has just signed for the club, would be better if we played a more expansive game rather than use him as a work horse, has played in Spain for 6-7 years can't be expected to come into a side playing badly and work wonders TO the definite get rid list, I could list another 9-10 from the reserves who are taking up valuable places, would also like to see a young keeper as back up to Pepe and let Cav go elsewhere
Gunga Din Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 out RieraBabelSkrtelAquilani and then maybe a few of the more fringe players.
D.Boon Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 (edited) Id sell Aurelio to go towards a good starting left back. Sell Riera and Babel to fund a quality left mid. Find someone to replace Lucas (if its not Aquilani) and cover fro Torres. We have enough players currently here to fill the other positions to a league winning standard. Edited February 24, 2010 by D.Boon
Conrad Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 A lot depends on whether Rafa is still here If he is I expect him to try and off load AquilaniRieraBabelDegen I don't think he'll renew Aurelio's contract.
New York Red Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 out RieraBabelSkrtelAquilani and then maybe a few of the more fringe players. Wow. Aquaman???
Zoob Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Id sell Aurelio to go towards a good starting left back. He's out of contract in the summer, so we're not gonna get anything for him.
Sion Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Out BabelDegenSpearingDarbySrktel has to go if we get a serious offer. i.e. region of £8-10mRiera if we can get a good offer i.e. region of £10-15mAgger if we get a very good offer. i.e. region of £17-20mMasch if we get a massive offer. i.e. region of £30-35mI'd cut our loses on Aquilani as well but i'd worry that money would just vanish like the Keane money. Kuyt is clearly and deservedly going to stay. Ngog is getting stick because he's currently 2nd choice, he should be our 4th choice striker and would do a great job as one. The Greek is in a similar situation. Think both should and will stay.
D.Boon Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 (edited) He's out of contract in the summer, so we're not gonna get anything for him. Ah, G+H will have to shell out then Agger if we get a very good offer. i.e. region of £17-20m I like Agger but nobody in their right mind will pay that for him. Edited February 24, 2010 by D.Boon
goose island Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 this really depends on investment. there's no point talking of going from nearly men to champions without it because it's not going to happen. and it won't happen changing the whole squad bar 10 players in one transfer window. the only certainty i can think of is aurelio because he's out of contract. potentially, masch is going too. hasn't el zhar been offered a new deal as well as ayala & kelly? have to admit, i think he added something different from the bench last year but he's now 23 and it's hard to see him holding down a regular place in the team after being out injured for so long. can't see either maxi or aquilani going after only coming in. babel has a big 3 months until the end of the season, and if he can show the desire he showed on sunday he could push for a regular place. that's the main thing that's missing with him for me. not sure if insua is good enough long term, but i've got patience with lucas, ngog and skrtel as they're still young. we're crying out for a defensive leader to ease the burden on carragher & the greek (he's great against the cloggers but a lack of pace is surely gonna get exposed against quality). ngog is still raw as well and carrying the lone striker role as much as he has this season has shown. he's contstantly f***ed at the moment. players like riera and kuyt - the money isn't there for anything better (i don't want to replace kuyt anyway)
D.Boon Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 How could i forget Degan? Sell him, give him away, drown him. Whichever Rafa prefers.
Cam Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 SkrtelAquilaniSkrtel had a shocking first few months of the season (and, to be honest, a few months before that too) but I think he's shown enough lately to suggest there is hope for him. Although I never bought in to the myth when he first arrived he looked okay; certainly okay enough to be 3rd choice. If he's back to that then I can understand keeping him - depending on whether Carragher or Agger are demoted to 3rd. Having Skrtel as 4th choice when we've Ayala & Kelly would be stoopid. As for Aquilani... I think he's a real candidate for the chop. I can't understand those who think he won't be. Rafa has shown several times in the past that he's willing to get rid of a player after a short spell. However, when it comes to two consecutive £20m failures then questions have to be asked of the manager.
Cunny Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 every year there are stories of mass clear outs or squad overhauls. It never happens. I also await in May, the Echo's annual Rafa to get summer transfer business done early story. Never happens.

However, when it comes to two consecutive £20m failures then questions have to be asked of the manager.Yeah, I agree, although theres the question of whether he is a £20M flop, or a £5m flop as we cant have paid any appearance money for him yet (or success, lol), and it seems to be genuinely accepted we didn't pay much down for him due to the injury etc. It will really depend on whether Rafa sees the game intelligence in him to get better I think.
Cam Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 every year there are stories of mass clear outs or squad overhauls. It never happens. We need a 1999 summer again - GH brought in 7*. * I'm not advocating bringing Diomede back.
Benzo-13 Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Babel (saleable asset)Riera (Spanish teams will cough up for him)Benayoun (According to agent, interested in move to Russia)Aurelio (contract up) Are all shoe-ins to go.
CHRed Posted February 24, 2010 Author Posted February 24, 2010 hasn't el zhar been offered a new deal as well as ayala & kelly? have to admit, i think he added something different from the bench last year but he's now 23 and it's hard to see him holding down a regular place in the team after being out injured for so long. But that is it though - he is 23 but has he offered from the bench, goals, assists?? To make the step up we need arrogance he his game, determination to beat a man and make a difference. You just need to look at Utd's or Everton's youngsters, they just go for it!
Molby Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 Kuyt, Ngog, Lucas wont be going anywhere. Also unlikely we will loose The Greek, and Maxi, as theyre just here. Not sure where we get the money to bring in 6 or 7 replacements either. yeah, that is kinda the elephant in the room isn't it?
Gomez Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 6 or 7 is not a lot if you include the likes of Spearing, Darby, Ayala, etc. I would add:SkrtelDegenone of Riera / Babel The new rules mean we will need British, which might be enough to save Darby, but probably not Spearing and it might condemn Ngog depending on which nationalities we can being in. I think we were one over the limit ( since, Dossena and Voronin out, Maxi in) so have little wiggle room. yeah, that is kinda the elephant in the room isn't it? Surely no one is still expecting quality replacements are they?
Jarg Armani Posted February 24, 2010 Posted February 24, 2010 SkrtelAquilani I'd like to see these 2 offloaded and replaced by English alehouse footballers, preferably Shawcross and Parker. Masch I'd like him to stay but if he goes I'd like to see him replaced by English Alehouse footballer Cattermole.
