Who would be in it in your opinion? This used to be an entertaining exercise in the 70's and 80's. Players like Best, Dalglish, Souness, McQueen, Bremner, Danny McGrain, David Hay, Lorimer, Hansen, Pat Jennings, Mark Hughes, Rush would all walk into a British squad in their day.

Not so any more. I can't think of any definites for a British squad of 23 right now.

Do you mean non-English? Bellamy and Fletcher probably would. Maybe Jonny Evans as CB cover but only because he plays for United, not because of his ability.

Exactly. Non-English.

Bellamy is possible, but I don't see Fletcher making it.

I'm talking about making it on merit alone.

That would have been very different years ago.

I knew you'd bloody question something!!!!

So genius, who the f*ck was better than him? Late 70's. Go on, pick someone.

Me, Charlie Clown, Murph, Bootser, my wife, my labrador, the old guy who used to look after the public toilets on Broad lane, my primary teacher Mrs Waitson who was in her 60's by then...EVERYONE was better than Danny F*cking McGrain - he was a red card in waiting!!

England, Right back or right half better than him in the late 70's/early '80's...let's see...Phil Neal, Mick Mills, Viv Anderson- my God - even Kenny Sansom and Willie Donachie!

McGrain is still talked off as being one of Scotland finest full backs.

Mad as a march hare you are. Mick Mills? Viv bloody Anderson??? McGrain is one of the best players to never play outside Scotland.

Kenny Sansom was, at the time, the worst player ever to play for England. Although he think that record's been surpassed since.

Carlton Palmer.

Geoff Thomas

Keith Curle

I'm old enough to have seen him play many times lib - it's not vitriol, he was just crap - a 'hard' man with no notable footballing skills to add to it. I've never understood his reputation in some quarters and can only assume it's been applied retrospectively. Whatsisname - David Narey - around the same time for Scotland? Infinitely better player for me.

What team(s) will play in the olympics? There was never a British side at all in the olympic football of late, right?

Would be weird with the games in London and no 'home team' in the football tournament.

Is it possible there will actually be a Great Britain team or for instance a play-off tournament between England, Scotland, Wales, N. Ireland and Gibraltar for the spot?

Why would Gibraltar get a game? anyway...the people in charge have said there will definitely be one but it's likely it'll just be full of young english players as the other associations say they're worried FIFA might decide to amalgamate the 4 countries*

*when in reality it's because they know they'd have embarrassingly low numbers of squad members.

My contention is that that number of non-England squad members would be zero.

Given might get a game or get on the bench, Gareth Bale may make the squad and Aaron Ramsey may do similar - but even they are a stretch. It would be pretty close to all-England. The best Irish and Welsh players are too old currently, and the best Scottish players are just not good enough.
