Yesterday, it was confirmed that PL will not be sent on Canal+ for the next 3 seasons, but on TV2 in Norway. The decision might be pending what's happening in the other Scandinavian countries (given, that Canal+ will not get the nod in the other countries).

Can anybody shed some light of status quo about the TV deal in their Scandinavian country?

It f***ing sucks if Canal+ won't show it. The nightmare scenario would be if Viasat gets it for Finland/Sweden. Like the idiot I am I paid for a year of Canal+ in December!

If PL is sold to anybody else than Canal+ in the other Scandinavian countries, it wouldn't be on Canal+ in any of the Scandinavian countries for the coming 3 years. As I said, it's apparantly a done deal in Norway, but the final decision by PL is pending on who's gonna buy in in Sweden/Denmark.

He once had a team

Or should I say, it once had him?

He showed me his room

Isn’t it full, Norwegian wool?

He showed me his Liverworld bags and his red Riise wig

And his jester hat and his scarf and his shirt that said ‘Stig’

AFAIK the PL-rights were bought by an independent investor who is now in the process of selling the rights to whatever channel pays the most I presume.

For Sweden the most like scenarios is that either Viasat or the TV4-group buys the rights I guess. How this affects Denmark, Norway and Finland I don't know.

That's correct. It's been sold to TV2 in Norway, which is a commercial channel like your Swedish TV4.

That's correct, drdooom. I really liked the Canal+ setup in Norway. Knowledgeable hosts and "liveable" commentators. I dread the day I have to listen to TV2 commentators. Bunch of knobheads the lot of them.

I think pundits in Sweden (like C+'s Fjellström) already work for the different networks, ie both Viasat and C+/TV4 so I'd imagine the surrounding programming around the PL matches will remain more or less the same.

Question is whether or not C+ will show the games on the Swedish channel alone or drop it altogether after losing out on one or a few of the other Scandinavian contracts.

and you still haven't told me how to sort it out!!

motorised dish, up your way look at 1, 1.2 meter, bigger the better, linux reciever, card sharing, look it up.

Don't think anyone will pay what's asked in Finland, so the new deal will be cancelled in all countries. Then if everything goes to plan, Canal+ will get their lower bid (including all 4 countries) accepted and nothing changes. Happy days.

A friend of mine wrote to the Danish Canal+ to get an update on the situation. He received this reply:

It says that the Danish rights haven't been sold yet but Canal+ reckons it will, as a minimum, get the Danish rights and everything will be back to normal. C+ will inform us ASAP when it has new information. If the channel doesn't get the rights, there'll be enough time to cancel the subscription.

PL is the most important thing for C+ and it will do everything to keep the rights.

Just read today that it is in fact SBS (6'eren) who have bought the PL rights in Denmark, so Canal+ DK will not show PL games for next season either.

I thought they teamed up this season? Canal+ shows a lot of the Spanish games as well, which SBS owns the rights for, right? 6'eren (or is it 9'eren?) also shows one PL game each week.

I still hope C+ will be able to sort it out (the company can't afford not to!). The thought of additional s***ty channels like 6'eren and 9'eren sickens me!

Bought him a beer, in case Wooly got cross...

That's easy for them to say.

C+ has given up on the Swedish rights now too. No new broadcaster has been announced though. Too bad as their off-match stuff was pretty good.

fIn Sweden, MTG has confirmed they will show the PL next season, so Viasat it is then.
