Myself and a few friends are talking about going to Italy to see a match. I'm thinking Milan or Juve whereas one of the lads wants to go to Napoli.

Anybody been there for a match - is it safe in / around the stadium?

He is talking about staying in Posatano by the coast and travelling up to Naples just for the match. Given that we will only be there for two nights is there enough time to do this?

It'll probably be fine - you and Tony 'two-toes' Morelli enjoy yourselves.

Ha cheers!! Always thought the San Pablo looked a bit dodge. Partly becasue Napoli has a bad rep (justified or not I don't know) and partly because wne I used to watch them play fans would be starting little fires in the stadium! I can't remember how long ago that was though!

Napoli's a great city and I'm sure you'd be fine at the match. Positano's lovely but a slightly odd choice of where to stay for a group of lads.

Positano is bleeding miles away, and while you can go by boat to Naples, travel will be a pain in the a***. Slow bus to Sorrento, then the slow train into Naples. Unless you're hiring a car. Which is AYOR, IMHO.

Naples is an earthy place. Like all such places, its reputation precedes it. It is amazingly lively. Just keep your wits about you and don't try to be Billy Big Bol*ocks and you'll be fine.

Games against the other big clubs are likely to be more violent around the stadium though. Probably much better than going to see games in the North, where it's all a bit more showy, tbh.

exactky one of my points! If we were going for a wedding with girlfiriends then grand!

Cheers for the info Matty! We will only go for a weekend but want to keep the travel to a minimum. Seems like hassle staying in Positano and travelling up?

I would prefer to go to Milan (Inter or AC) or Juve. One of my mates swears blind that there is no life in Milan at night and no pubs?! I am sure there must be a few around to have a decent session

I thought Milan was really dull in the evening, but that was based on a short stay there when we played Inter.

Matty will know more though

Don't get me wrong Positano and all the Amalfi coast are fantastic, but not the place with lads for a short football weekend. Transport would vary depending on when you go, after Easter they'll be in holiday mode so most of the transport will run, but still takes a long time.

If you do go to Napoli, I'd get a city centre hotel, tbh.

As for Milan, there is nightlife but it's more spread out, not localised in the city centre and a mile away from 'British' nightlife. One of the best place to go in Milan is the area round the canals, called Navigli. That's more artistic and leftfield, but quite cool. I don't know if you just want to get hammered in nice surroundings or dull ones.... ;) I think there are places to go out around Corso Buenos Aires too. Negativland will have a good take on what's what if you can draw him to this thread.

In summary - choose the match you want to see carefully, you can usually get tickets for most matches except the really big derbies. Naples will be cheaper in every respect, and the City is more friendly and exciting. Casual football violence is more common there than in the UK. If you go to see Inter of course, you'll see the second best team in the world and some great players.

Don't go to Juventus - s*** team, no fans (at home).

Positano is beautiful but as others say its too far away for a quick weekend which involves getting in Naples and back. Quiet nightlife too.

I would have suggested Sorrento myself.

Milan there's actually plenty of nightlife but as Matty says, it's not in the actual centre, this is the mistake people make when looking for it.

Navigli is a good bet, probably the best for a single night in town, dozens of pubs along the canals, and some more eccentric places slightly off the track.

Porta Venezia is getting pretty good again, with a couple of places in close proximity, mono and zoom, and the ever reliable atomic bar.

Loads of stuff around Moscova and Corso Como too.
