Spain wants LFC to give Torres some rest

A bit rich considering he got injured during Spain duty but hey.

Spanish national team coach Vicente del Bosque has urged Fernando Torres to delay his return from injury with Liverpool.

Torres returned to training in midweek following a lay-off with a knee problem and is line to return for the clash with Wigan on March 8.

European Champions Spain are amongst the favourites to take the Word Cup crown in July and the 59-year-old says his country's chances are improved by Torres being kept out of action.

The comments could anger Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez, who has seen his talisman play just 21 times this season.

He has notched 12 goals during an injury ravaged campaign that has seen the club struggle to hold onto the coveted fourth Champions League place.

Torres' recent battle with a groin problem was sustained whilst on international duty with Spain, reigniting the club versus country row that provides the backdrop to national team fixtures.

But del Bosque wants the 25-year-old to play less for the Merseysiders in an attempt to keep him in top condition for this summer's finals in South Africa.

He told the News of the World: "The fewer games Fernando plays for his club, the better it will be for us.

"We want him not to play too many games, to recover completely for the World Cup and have had some rest in between. We'd like him fresh for the tournament.

"That can only be good news for Spain. We hope Liverpool's loss will be our gain.

"Fernando Torres represents a crucial part of our squad."

Perhaps you'd like to give him a break from international duty since your sub-par medical team seem incapable of organising a training schedule which doesn't aggravate his injuries. You f***ing c***.

Well considering the amount of injuries our players have been suffering from it may be time to look at what we are doing wrong. Although they do have a cheek.

what is it?

So is it your contention that we have more injuries than other sides?

Well we have had Johnson, Carra, Gerrard, Torres to name a few out with injuries, only Carra rarely gets them.

I'm just curious to find out whether you believe we have more injuries than other teams as your post said we were doing something wrong.

it happened in the Souness/Boersma era

I am aware of that. I wasn't disputing the fact that it could happen and Souness' ridiculous methods (or "physical assaults" as the process is known to police) were shown up when he went elsewhere. I'm just trying to find out what gave Ant the impression that we were doing something wrong. We don't have that many injuries - just long term ones to a few players and recurrent ones to a few more. We're about on par with other clubs.

You'd certainly struggle to make a convincing case we'd suffered from a greater number of injuries this season than Arsenal or Man U have.

I sometimes get the feeling that because we are so all consumed by Liverpool and hence so limited in our knowledge of other clubs that it skews our perceptions. Maybe spending 24/7 on a Bolton Wanderers forum for a month would help bring some perspective...

Well it would certainly make this place look cheery in comparison.

That's actually one of the reasons I'm usually fairly positive. I've got a few mates at work that are season ticket holders for teams like Bolton and talking to them about football certainly does bring some perspective.

A lot of the whining by Liverpool fans (From those that do whine) is because 'We are Liverpool!!" (Obviously ignoring money spent and what our rivals are doing) - whereas people that support teams like Bolton week in, week out, have far more realistic expectations and a totally different view of the game.

there were specific reasons for that (road running and poor training techniques)

We dotn get more injuries than anyone else, our problem is compared to Utd or Chelsea we cant cover them well

Isn't there some truth about the more frequent recurrence of the kind of injuries we get though?

like what?

We know Torres and Gerrard had injuries which can aggrevate

Agger has a back problem
