I love this league, games lack quality but are intense and the atmospheres are incredible. But this crazy s**** seems to happen every month!

Football violence in Argentina has claimed its latest gruesome death. 14-year-old Newell’s Old Boys fan Walter Cáceres passed away the day after he was shot three times in the head by supporters of his own team.

Cáceres was travelling home from his side’s midweek defeat at Huracan in Buenos Aires on Wednesday night on a supporters’ coach. A lethal trap had been laid on the motorway outside Rosario to ensure the bus came to a halt.

Shards of glass and other objects had been placed on the road and when the bus passed two tyres were blown out. As the bus came to a standstill other Newell’s supporters emerged from the roadside and began to spray the bus with bullets.

The ugly scene took place a few kilometres outside Rosario in an area called Las Flores.

On admission to hospital Cáceres was in a critical condition and required assistance breathing. The initial assessment of the doctors was that his situation was “desperate” although everything was done to save his life. At 18:40 yesterday after the 14-year-old was pronounced dead by Lelio Mangiaterra, the Public Health Minister of Rosario.

Two further fans on the same bus as Cáceres are also in hospital being treated for gunshot wounds sustained in the attack. 28-year-old Diego Orlando Malcovic was shot in the abdomen while 42-year-old Carlos Muratovic received a head shot. The prognosis for Malcovic and Muratovic from the doctors is encouraging.

The reason for the horrific attack seems to have been a dispute over territory between members of the same barra brava group. It is believed one section of supporters took exception to other fans standing in their special place on the terrace to watch a game.

All over South America think. A mate went to a game when he was staying in Sao Paulo, all dressd up in Sao Paulo shirts etc and as they approached the stadium they got mugged by some young Sao Paulo fans. Some older fellas came along and the lads legged it. The older guys checked my mate and his friends were o.k. and asked what happened. When they had finished the older guys told them to come with them and took them to this big bar, asolutely packed with the home support. They waited outside for 5 mins and the old guys came out with all the wallets, money, tickets everything and apologised for the young lads. Turns out these old guys were like the grandfathers of the "Firm" everyone respected them, they told my mate that the kids will rob anyone, even their own fans from differing parts of the city. They told the kids that if tourists from another country travel there to watch Sao Paulo and buy the shirts they should be treated like royalty, not targets.

BUENOS AIRES, March 3 (Reuters) - A police officer is in intensive care after being shot in the head during an alleged fight between rival factions of Estudiantes fans, Argentine media reported security sources as saying on Wednesday.

The shooting occurred at a railway station in La Plata where fans were waiting to board a train to Quilmes on the outskirts of Buenos Aires for the match between Estudiantes and Argentinos Juniors in the Clausura championship.

At least two other people were hurt in the attack and a number of arrests were made and firearms confiscated, an official with the secretariat for security at football matches told La Nacion's website (www.lanacion.com.ar).

The shooting followed previous incidents this year of fighting in turf wars among hard core Estudiantes fans, whose team lost their match 1-0 to fall five points behind leaders Godoy Cruz.

Didn't Maradona famously used to do that when in Napoli?

so the story goes, any Argentinian robbed by the mafia in Napoli if they called into the police station would have their belongings returned after a couple of phonecalls via Diego.
