Before Lampard's 3x taken penno, when was the last time you saw a retaken pen?

Now Howard 'look at me, look at me' Webb gets in on the action....going to be the latest 'current climate'

I get the feeling that its not the refs by themselves but a directive from the top. The refs seem alot more dramatic these as if the bosses are saying '...when you speak to the players, make sure your body language speaks to the TV audience'

People say its ego from the refs and I dont disagree but I think its something passively* supportive from the refs body.

*And thats being understated

surprised it doesn't happen a lot more

likewise keepers never get penalised for hanging on to the ball for longer than 6 seconds

I really don't understand the need to retake if the pen goes straight in

Seen a few keepers complete their kick-from-the-hands 'movement' outside the box and not get penalized this season. They barefacedly passed that one off as a long-standing law when Reina was called up on it ("Really? It is a common offence...round our way.").

Wouldn't mind if they ordered a re-take if only attacking players were encroaching. Same with the re-take after a save for a defender encroaching: if it was only defenders then by all means give them another go.

Owen retook one on the opening day game V Chelsea a few years back, 2003 I think... Think Cudicini stepped off his line if I remember rightly. It was the first weekend of that ruling coming into action as well I think.

correct me if I am wrong.

Barnsey - you're right.

What the law states (it may not state, but it's the accepted way) - if you take a pen & a defender encroaches it's retaken if missed & stands if scored. If it's an attacker that encroaches, it's the opposite.

And yeah - Cobs - I agree. Encroachment happens all the time, it's almost never called

another player from each side encroached on the 2nd Kuyt pen - so by rights he should have ordered another retake - if it really was a 'look at me moment' - but the 1st one Lucas was wayyyy inside the box to be fair - right in front of the ref too
