GME75 Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 What team would you start with against Spurs on Wednesday? Not sure if Lennon is fit yet, Keane & Defoe played yesterday. Think it will be probably be Crouch & Defoe on Wednesday with our trouble defending set pieces, so do you start with the Greek ?
CarraLegend Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Think Maxi and Aquilani will start and we'll go Masch, Lucas Maxi, Aquilani, Aurelio Kuyt. No idea what he'll do defensively.

CarraLegend Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Got a feeling for Maxi in injury time. Maxi 91, Keane 94, Crouch 95.
Metro Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Doesn't matter what the team is, the result will be the same. Away win.

Jarg Armani Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 I'd start the Greek ahead of Skrtel to be honest. Fingers crossed Danny Agger's back. Anyone know the story there?

Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 I'd assign each player a number & then base selection on a random number generator... What's up with Johnson?
Red Kent Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Kyrgiakos, where does he stand ? He was one if not the best player at Stoke, so based on that performance should he start against Spurs ? Will he start against Spurs though ? One of Rafa's conundrums here I'm afraid. I believe that he does deserve to start but I don't think he will.

Will need him to compet with Crouch in the air.
psl Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 To be fair, Defoe is a different threat altogether. Also, maybe he wouldn't have started at Stoke if Agger was fit?
Rory Fitzgerald Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Kyrgiakos, where does he stand ? I believe that he does deserve to start but I don't think he will. Different circumstances - Stoke were never going to play football - it was an aerial bombardment. Spurs have Defoe, Keane, Modric, Krancjar and maybe Lennon (?), a different horse is needed for those circumstances. However if we dont have a proper right back and Carra has to play there then I would take Kyrgiakos over Skrtel.
Coyler Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Depends on Agger's fitness, you'd think. Had a great game yesterday heading endless high balls but we're hardly expecting that against Spurs.
Guest speker Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 With Stoke we clearly needed to deal with their aerial game, the long throws and high balls lofted into the box often. Spurs are a diff kettle of fish tho and much more dangerous with the ball on the deck. While the Greek mostly dominated in the air v Stoke I have a feeling he'll be less effective trying to deal with the likes of Dafoe and Crouch and their ability to work the ball on the ground.
Red Kent Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 The point I am trying to make is that he deserves to start, but he probably wont. So what incentive does he have next time he's selected ?
CarraLegend Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Keep him in, it's not like Agger, Carra or Skrtel have been anything other than ordinary this season. I think he's done alright for most of this season and was really good in Lyon but got blamed for the goal in everyones anger when it was mostly Agger's fault. His biggest problem is he's not Sami Hyypia.
Coyler Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 The point I am trying to make is that he deserves to start, but he probably wont. So what incentive does he have next time he's selected ?That was noted, but if he's not the right player to pick (and he's pretty limited in what he does well) then he shouldn't start.
CarraLegend Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 The point I am trying to make is that he deserves to start, but he probably wont. So what incentive does he have next time he's selected ? Welcome to football, thats been going on for decades around the world. You can already tell you're lining this up to rip the manager to bits.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 That was noted, but if he's not the right player to pick (and he's pretty limited in what he does well) then he shouldn't start. I agree. He is the classic squad player, good for some games and not others. He is not a player that will prove himself to be an indespensible player to the team. Price kinda indicates that. Bit part player for certain games.
