Contact lenses

I've never had contact lenses and plan on trying them out soon. Can anyone recommend good opticians for contact lenses or are they all much of a muchness? Any other general advice on contacts? I'm short-sighted and don't have to wear my glasses for everything but often have them on all day if I'm off to the football/pub/shopping/etc
