anny road Posted January 2, 2010 Author Posted January 2, 2010 I think he's mad So do I....Bolton is a massive pull for him though He is a legend at Burnley, I think it would be a mistake Players love him
Rimbeux Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 (edited) So do I....Bolton is a massive pull for him though He is a legend at Burnley, I think it would be a mistake Players love him Even in the footballing sense, Bolton have been set up to direct and pragmatic, going all the way back to Allardyce. No doubt they've got some players who can knock it about, but he'll have a big problem in deciding how they are going to play, if he's to try and change it knowing it could take a while and see them down, or go with something he's not really into. It's a real sideways move and I think he's just as much if not more chance of managing in the PL next season by staying put with a team he built and the chances are he could get a better job in a year. I could have understood him going to Celtic in the summer, but Bolton? If he hangs on at Burnely opportunities at bigger clubs will come along But he will be on a hiding to nothing at Notlob
stressederic Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 He should avoid Bolton like the plague, there's nothing he can achieve there that is comparable to what he could do at Burnley. The best he could do at Bolton is lower-mid table obscurity whilst the fans still hark back to the days of Big Sam. At Burnely he could do the same and everyone would be surprised/delighted. And as Anny says, the bigger opportunities will come along if he wants them.

Sion Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 rumours have obviously got around fast. 1.66 on betfair! imagine if you'd have got on him when Megson was sacked, you'd be rich.
stressederic Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 On an unrelated note, Anny, did you slap Ste Jordan for getting sent off against Everton?

CarraLegend Posted January 2, 2010 Posted January 2, 2010 I think it'd be an alright move to be honest, but thats because I think Burnley are nailed on to go down and his reputation will get a bit of a dent. Bolton will have a bit of a bigger budget and have a better squad. Is a bit of a sideways move In some respects but im not sure how much better Burnley could get. Bolton could be a top half job next season and then he can get another move.
Jacks Jackie Jackson Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 Lets not forget though that Burnley haven't won in the league for 15 games and today was their first away victory of the season. It's just possible Coyle reckons he's taken them as far as he knows how to and realises other teams have got the measure of them and he sees no other eventuality than relegation. That being the case, he's got this get-out now as it's fully understandable an ex-player going back to manage a former club who could be argued to be bigger than the club he's currently managing. it's possible he thinks there will be no opportunities like this in the future if he's associated with the failure of taking his current team down.
muleskinner Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 If Gartside gives him a big enough salary he'll be there like a shot.
Tones Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 Strange he turned down Celtic but is considering Bolton. Especially with boltons position. He would be mad, i think he will get a bigger club if continues what hes doing at Burnley.
Jacks Jackie Jackson Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 If Gartside gives him a big enough salary he'll be there like a shot. I don't know about that. He lives near me and is a modest man who has a modest family home so I don't think he's in any way flash or would go simply for personal financial reasons. I really like him and reckon, like others, he'd be best staying put for the time being. You know who he reminds me of? He's a Scot who doesn't drink, gets the best out of his team regardless of individual talent so is therefore a motivator and his teams play open, attacking football. Hmmm? Strange he turned down Celtic but is considering Bolton. Especially with boltons position. He would be mad, i think he will get a bigger club if continues what hes doing at Burnley. Both Bolton and Burnley would have to be considered bigger clubs than Celtic. Not being parochial or anything but the league Celtic play in is a very poor relation to the English Premier League. I read recently, although I admit I didn't check the veracity of the statement, that it's worth something in the region of £50,000,000 to be in the English Premiership, even for the club that finishes bottom while the team who won the Scottish Premiership got something in the region of £2,000,000 for doing so.

If he was offered enough wedge and a decent length tight contact, why wouldn't he go?
Ostrich Man Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 You know who he reminds me of? a younger maurice roeves?
anny road Posted January 3, 2010 Author Posted January 3, 2010 talk amongst the squad is he is going, they have a team meeting tomorrow at 11.30

They may earn more money than Celtic but they are not a bigger club.
Tones Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 He didn't turn down Celtic, it never got to offer stage. It didnt, but they did want him and he did tell them he wasnt interested, which is kinda the same thing?
Chili Palmer Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 It didnt, but they did want him and he did tell them he wasnt interested, which is kinda the same thing? They always wanted Mowbray first, they only used Coyle. He knew that.
anny road Posted January 4, 2010 Author Posted January 4, 2010 It will be announced tomorrow that he is leaving Unless he has a massive change of heart
Ste M Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 It will be announced tomorrow that he is leaving Unless he has a massive change of heart Friend of mine does the accounts for the club - he told me at dinner he was off. £3.6M compo - the remainder of his contract in exchange for having a real crack at staying in the league and earning 10 or 20 times that? Crazy.
