can anyone explain how they have managed it?

it seems a bit odd to me, since they lost another £40 odd million this financial year

As Cunny says - converted the debt into equity.

Last year they lost £44.4mil, including a £12.6mil compensation payout to Scolari and his backroom team.

how does that work? everyone owed money (probably roman) gets shares in the club rather than a promise of money?

how does this affect chelsea's finances? debt is supposed to be cheaper than equity, although if it's an interest free loan from abramovich and if he doesnt expect a return on his equity either it doesnt matter?

As I understand it, all of Abramovich's investments were not equity but interest free loans - I suspect it was just this debt that was converted.

apparently done due to impending legislations regarding debts by uefa/fifa which would make things interesting to say the least

Platini probably gave Roman some inside info when they were pictured together a couple of months back
