Swipe Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 (edited) Ashley Young will be suspended for them after picking up a booking today. Edited December 27, 2009 by Swipe
Maldini Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Their midfield is set up for Aquilani and Gerrard to pick them apart, Petrov is their defensive midfielder, should be plenty of room.
chrisbonnie Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 i can see us pwneing these long flutes, i really can, arsenal wiped the floor with them, particularly in the second half my best mate is a villa nut, so this is gonna be brilliant on tuesday
fred milne Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Rafa's team selection for this one will be fascinating. My guess is that Kuyt will come in for Aquilani but it would be interesting to see the same team as for Wolves.

My guess is that Kuyt will come in for Aquilani but it would be interesting to see the same team as for Wolves. I know, it's a thorny one. Still think Insua could do with a rest, Riera t***ting about in the tunnel in his big coat annoyed me before the kick off yesterday.
john_lfc Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Hoping to only see one change with Kuyt coming in for Insua and Aurelio moving to left back Shocking seeing two left backs on the pitch like yesterday.
IcelandicFan Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 I have a bad feeling about this one, we will loose.
Swipe Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Need to rattle into this lot. Can see Aquilani going back to the bench to be honest.
Sion Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 They were dreadful today. They'll either come out to prove a point or be just as dreadful. They were pretty bad at Anfield, just exploited our set piece flaw. If they try to play their game we'll destroy them as Torres and Gerrard will get the space they never get nowadays (which is the main reason we need another showpiece player)
Sion Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Local area is forecast heavy snow Tuesday night. Pitch will be fine but could be an issue if the authorities do the usual moaning about travel safety.
betterman Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Their midfield is set up for Aquilani and Gerrard to pick them apart, Petrov is their defensive midfielder, should be plenty of room. Ya, he was dreadful today, real weak link in that midfield. They were dreadful today. They'll either come out to prove a point or be just as dreadful. They were pretty bad at Anfield, just exploited our set piece flaw. If they try to play their game we'll destroy them as Torres and Gerrard will get the space they never get nowadays (which is the main reason we need another showpiece player) They will probably try play from the start against us though. They were content to hoof long balls at Heskey 'til Fabregas got the first today, they would have been delighted with the scoreless draw I'd say. Can't see us destroying them in any eventuality, I'd be happy to win by one. They're not as bad as they looked today really.
abc Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 They weren't even that bad - thought it was an equally contested first half. Both teams had chances. Arsenal came out with guns blazing in the second though, and not too many teams are able to handle them when in that mood. Villa can play. They will be hurting from this loss. I think we need to get out there and take the game to them and be brave. They have enough firepower to put us away since our defence is still very dodgy. Set pieces - wear nappies... BTW, Ashley Young is rubbish. And I think I can safely say that since he's not playing against us tomorrow anyway. The game is there for the taking, but only if Rafa is brave about it. Let's hope he realises that the defence in its current state of confidence is not likely to be able to grind out a clean sheet.
_00_deathscar Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Shocking seeing two left backs on the pitch like yesterday. Bit harsh. Aurelio may primarily be a left back - and a darn good (and injury prone) one at that - but he also played left midfield and central midfield for Valencia before, as a 'regular' too.
David Hodgson Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 I think Rafa will go with this front 6 : Benayoun-------Gerrard-----Lucas-----Aurelio ------------------Kuyt---Torres ..with Benayoun and Kuyt possibly interchanging.

Rimbeux Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 you think he'll go 4-4-2 away to villa who play 4-5-1? Might not have much choice
David Hodgson Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 you think he'll go 4-4-2 away to villa who play 4-5-1? With Benayoun or Kuyt behind Torres we can move between those 2 formations effortlessly. His alternative is to start with Aquilani or Aurelio alongside Lucas, but I can't see it.
David Hodgson Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Just reading some of Rafa's post match comments, he mentioned knocks to Aurelio and Benayoun against Wolves. Given the proximity of this next game, he may, then, not start with either, which would give us a problem for the left hand side, which may be solved by possibly bringing Babel back in. I'd assume if Aurelio and Yossi were out that Aquilani would have to start, though I noticed he went straight down the tunnel when he was subbed, so be may be nursing a small problem too. Maybe : -Kuyt------Aquilani-----Lucas----Babel ----------Gerarrd----Torres
Earl Hafler Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Having watched Arsenal open them up in the second half by having a midfielder attack them from deep, i hope Rafa has taken note, although we're likely to revert to a defensive formation and need to bring on the cavalry after 65 minutes.
Ed the Wool Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Am half looking forward to this, havn't felt like that for a while. Would love to smash the goblin, he's a total c***. Three points here would do wonders for the confidence as well. And they robbed us at Anfield.

Same here, should be good, even forgetting league positions this always seems to be Villa's biggest game of the season aswell unless Brum are in the league. Lets put these horrible little t***s in their place with another brutal Villa Park beating.
Stevie H Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 one-nil us will do just fine. think they're a bit too organised for a whupping these days and three-nil really flattered arsenal at the weekend. if torres' tail is up though he could get some joy as they're not the paciest at the back.

That's why they battered him last time. I'm sure they'll be thinking that if it worked at Anfield with the home crowd on the referee's back then why wouldn't it work at Villa Park. Who's the ref?

I'm sure they'll be thinking that if it worked at Anfield with the home crowd on the referee's back then why wouldn't it work at Villa Park. Who's the ref? Yep, he was done 3 times in about the first 10 minutes at Anfield, 2 of which werent even called fouls. Elbowed in the head 3 times by Habib Beye. We need to kick off about it though instead of just standing there and taking it. Get Sammy Lee to keep bringing it up after games. We're pushovers.
