Have noticed some players have started to wear gum shields during the game.

Gallas, Gomes at Spurs, Ameobi at Newcastle.

They all seem to be black players too, from what I've noticed. Maybe they think they're boxers.

martin keown usually wore one and he's white. maybe he thought he was a sporting stereotype.

I didn't mean it in an offensive way. Can only mention the players i've seen use them. Never saw Keown with one on.

It's just a bit weird. Not like they're in much danger these days of getting any teeth knocked out.

I'm pretty sure players still lose teeth reasonably regularly. There's been a few games I can remember where a player has been injured and it's then reported they've lost or weakened some teeth.

Also, look at the players you've listed; a defender, a 'keeper and a striker. All players who have to stick their head in where boots might be flying.

It's not a regular instance where they are in danger of losing teeth though is it? Although I lost one last year and it was s***!

Fair enough, but if that's the case shouldnt' all players in those positions wear them? Not just tarts like Gallas.

Depends on players preference though. If a player wants to wear a gum shield then fair enough, I guess they'd rather spend a tenner on a gum shield than a couple of hundred getting a fake tooth put in.

they are compulsory in Nebraska if you play indoor footy, optional in outdoor but you see lots of young kids wearing them.

my boys have to wear them for karate and they hate them, but a trip to the dentist costs a fortune so they keep them in.

I don't play indoor footy any more, but I go and watch every so often. Lots of guys have taken to wearing "cups"/ nut protectors when they play indoor footy.

I think you might have a problem, if you're only dating gum shield wearers,

Have you ever stopped and asked yourself "why don't I ever date people who don't wear gum shields?"?

I think you'll find the answer has a lot to do with your self hate.
