richwilks Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 Could easily go on to be 2nd in the all time appearances.
Bo Benn Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 But f*** me, did Callaghan play a lot of games for us.
Red Kent Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 But f*** me, did Callaghan play a lot of games for us. No rotation, no subs, you needed to kill someone to get booked in dem days. You carried on playing with a broken leg, arm or neck. Hamstrings were things that butchers used to keep meat together.Calf strains were things that mummy cows got during labour.Metertarsols were things that Patrick Moore looked at through a telescope.Hairbands were for girls under 16. Different game back then.
Cam Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 Could easily go on to be 2nd in the all time appearances.I'll stick my neck out and say he won't break the Top 5.

carrafan Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 I'll stick my neck out and say he won't break the Top 5. Hehe, 16 game difference between 2nd and 6th. Playing 170 more games at about 45 games a season is about 4 more years. Carra's what 32 now, i cant see him go on like this game after game till 36-37 to be honest. 100 more games as a regular probably and then i dont know.

Sion Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 Can't wait for Pacheco to break Cally's record in 2029
floyd the barber Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 excellent job Carra... i will say...controversially but hey im gonna say it......Very average player to be making that many appearances, which coincidently coincides with our poor league performance in the time hes been in the first team.. Hes a great cup player....ie..those one of games where passion and grit mean everything, but week in-week out.......i honestly dont think hes been that good... Destroy me...go ahead
McBain Posted December 17, 2009 Posted December 17, 2009 Can't say i've ever given a s*** about any landmark for a player

Destroy me...go aheadThe positive spin on that is how an average player with hardwork, great reading of the game, dedication and passion has over come his limitation and for a while established himself as the best in the PL if not the world. Any player peaks and troughs and carra is going through a phase at the moment which yes has impacted the team and certainly the defence, but he is not the scapegoat! Well done Carra on a fantastic career and hope by the time you reach 700, you have added 2 PL's and a CL medal to your collection

Destroy me...go aheadyou're an idiot. he's been amazingly consistent and you simply don't play that number of games for a top club without being a very, very good footballer. again, you're an idiot.
Beardsley Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 you're an idiot. he's been amazingly consistent and you simply don't play that number of games for a top club without being a very, very good footballer. again, you're an idiot. Wouldn't really call him a great footballer, but a fantastic defender he is.
billybunter Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Wow, here we have one of ours making an astonishing landmark of games, especially in this day and age, and people are slagging him off. Can't we just celebrate the fact that he has been a terrific servant for the club. A red through and through. We may not have won the league since he has been in the team, but that has very little to do with our defense, which has, on the whole, been f***ing brilliant over the last 7 years or so. Congrats Carra. You absolute legend.
Stevie H Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 Wouldn't really call him a great footballer, but a fantastic defender he is.before the thread dissolves into a soup of semantics, they're the same thing. a defender is a footballer as are midfielders and attackers.

Kite Posted December 18, 2009 Posted December 18, 2009 He's a fantastic footballer. As others have said, you don't play 600 games for Liverpool on foot of a lack of talent. That record should speak for itself.
