We don't need a replacement for an unfit Torres...

... we need a balls out, aggressive, communicative, centre half who can lead us OUT of this f***ing mess.

We have the FEAR, and we need someone to get us out of it that isn't currently at the club.

Of our current leaders, Stevie is unfit and has been in poor form all season.

Carra is fit and has been in poor form all season and

Mascher has only been at the races for the past four games.

NONE of the others are willing to take on the explicit responsibility, on the pitch, of pulling Liverpool Football Club into the top three.

So, in January, get rid of the deadwood - quickly, and spend every penny on the likes of Upson, Shawcross, Cahill. At a push, Hangeland or Johnson of Birmingham.

And before we have all the usual tripe about how none of them are good enough for us, ask yourselves if we're currently better off with what we have?

I actually think your last two are better than your first three

Its a big ask though for a defender to come in half way through a season and not just perform at a high level, but inspire and motivate others around him as well. Especially at a big club like Liverpool. I can't think of many around the world who could do all of what your asking to be honest.

Liverpool crap at defending in the 90s.

Hyypia arrives at the club, Liverpool rock solid for the most part for ten years.

Hyypia leaves club, Liverpool crap at defending again.

Bayer Leverkusen suddenly good at defending.

Coincidence?

I think not...

Why the f*ck did he have to go. I am so p*ssed with us losing two outstanding players at the same time. People dont really appreciate that when criticising Rafa.

We could do with Hyppia and Alonso now, we really could.

You say that as if Rafa had nothing to do with selling those players

Right now it seems like a no-brainer, but i can understand if it was difficult to offer Hyypia a 2 year deal. Especially as new contracts appear to eat into his transfer budget.

There were plenty on here writing Hyypia off as long ago as two years ago anyway

And it wouldn't have mattered as much if we'd have got Turner like we should have.

Hyypia wanted to leave because understandably, Rafa couldn't guarantee him games, and he felt he needed to be playing more. But I think things would have been hugely different had he still been here.... I actually think we've missed someone commanding in defence more than we've missed Alonso. And we've really missed Alonso...

You think he sold them out of his own choice?

He had a major hand in both of those deals, particularly Hyypia which clearly wasn't financial since he was on a free and Sotiris cost 2.5M.

I love it that people think after not being in the CL squad for the first part of last year, Sami would suddenly believe Rafa when he said "you're going to play loads Sami, honest, just sign the contract yeah?".

Even in our deepest defensive injury crisis, Sami would get more games at Leverkusen than here.

My sentiments exactly but as I said the anti-Rafa brigade will try to pin everything on Rafa's shoulders.

I know, you'd have to assume that he believed that he could let Sami go and get a good player in to replace him. That hasn't happened.

Same with Alonso, Rafa had been keen to replace him with Barry and so when Alonso did move we had all high hopes that he'd planned for it and had a replacement lined up.

Its his squad, he's responsible for it , and these haven't been succesful bits of transfer business. I have some sympathy with what he was trying to do with Barry and I understand that Sami wanted a better deal than the one on offer. Its just that Rafa is the one calling the shots and he hasn't had a good summer with the squad.
