I think this has changed quite a lot in the last year or so. In my mind, Pepe is clearly the best there is now, but I also think that Cech clearly isn't top three. What do you think?

I'd go with:

1. Pepe

2. Freidel

3. Green (I know I'll get flak for that one, but I think he does it all well)

Shay Given is far better than green imo. Think Green is just another over-hyped English keeper. Yes, he may be better than Kirkland, Carson and Foster, but then most keepers are...

It may just be that the media are beginning to realise that Cech is no longer in the top 3, but normally they just go with the default

1) Cech

2) Van Der Saar

3) anyone who is their flavour of the week

Reina made a mistake against Everton 3 years ago so he's clearly crap. VDS and Cech never make mistakes, they're just really unlucky.

I like Given a lot. He's a fantastic shot stopper, but I don't think he dominates the box very well. He's not so hot in the air either.

Reina

VDS

Cech

The rest (who are all a mixture of s****)

i'd go with that too. Riena is so much better than the rest its funny. VDS is still very decent as is Cech who is not playing well at the minute

Pepe is so far ahead of the rest, yet so many don't see it.

for me, Howard has gotten better over the last 2 seasons and I'd have him ahead of Given.

You can't leave out Freidel pal. He's been bloody brilliant this season.

No he hasnt, and he hasnt been any other season. His howlers like the one against Chelsea just seem to get completely ignored because he's at a nothing club.

Errrm, right.

He hasnt been any other season -- I'd guess that isn't a predominant view.

And who hasn't had howlers like that? They all have them. He has far fewer than most.

What about his howler against West Brom? The one where he just parries the ball out straight into the six yard box? He does that all the time, he's also always rooted to his goal and his distribution is pretty ordinary. He's a decent/ok premier league goalie, nothing else, and theres a reason he's either spent his career sitting on a bench or at average clubs.

But you've always been fond of bigging up any player who gets a bit of media praise.

Given and James? seriously?

LOL

I wouldnt even draw breath when it comes to Cech and Given. Given everytime. Cech is nowhere near the top 3.

The biggest asset a keeper has is nothing to do with him, but rather the confidence he instills in the 4 defenders ahead of him. If he doesnt have that, defenders encroach on his territory, they more jittery in letting players get an inch on them and they more likely to make rash decisions rather than let their keeper come and take control.

Cech has lost alot of that in the past 2 years. I wouldnt have him. He still has assets as a good shot stopper and similar to Reina I think he does well when confronted with a 1-on-1, but not in the top 3 of Premiership.

Shay Given has destroyed every defender who has ever played in front of him, simply because he is so bad in the air and wont come for a ball, nor dominate his area

Cech almost looks like the worst keeper in the air in the Premiership.

I'd still have Given over Cech based on the past 2 years.

You saw that on some of the goals today. On one the defensive line didn't hold up but fell back into a heap on the 8 yard line instead, and for one they didn't even try to stay higher but started on the 8 yard line and Drogba headed it into whoever it was who scored instead of letting Cech take it.
