floyd the barber Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 so a couple of years back....i would say messi was the best player on the planet with Ronaldo close behind.. now even though messi had a great season last and won numerous personal awards.....he still seems to have stalled in his progress, still an unbelievable talent, but has he really added that much to his game?? apart from the amazing ability to cut inside and drift past players....doesnt he need to add more to really become one of the greatest players of all time? i now watch messi and always know exactly what hes gonna do...pick it up wide right, then will look to cut in on his left foot. Ronaldo on the other hand seems to be getting better with every game, pains me to say it as i hate the guy.....but for me he is by far the best player in the world right now...hes a genius at free kicks, can take penaltys, great in the air, etc,etc I think next years world cup could be a battle between these 2 for player of the tournament(obviously early to say, but i reckon both are light years ahead of anyone else right now).....and while i think Portugal dont have good enough players surrounding Ronaldo.....For messi he will be surrounded by quality and has a gresat chance to really make the tournament his own...
floyd the barber Posted December 11, 2009 Author Posted December 11, 2009 (edited) 1 - Pacheco2 - Messix - Ronaldo Pacheco is obviously on a different planet..and so is excluded from the worlds greatest list..Would messi or ronaldo have made the unbelievable impact Pachy made the other night? no..it will go down in legend, like cheyrous appearance a few years back in a friendly or the diomede overhead kick.... Hassony Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 messi wa really poor last season, only scored 30 +goals and guided his team to the treble I think like Mascherano, he struggled at the beginning of the season because of argentina, he is getting back to his best now Both are superb players, and probably the best two players in the world since maradonna

floyd Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Both are superb players, and probably the best two players in the world since maradonnaZidane, Van Basten, and the best of all, the Real Ronaldo were the 3 best since Maradona.
Damian_de Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Agree, and there may have been more, too. Bit of a rash call from Hassony, that one.

Messi hasn't stalled in his progress at all, he is an incredible footballer. He ain't too shabby in the air either, ask Rio Ferdinand. He isn't a complete c*** like Ronaldo either.
Hassony Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 I should have said potentialy the best since maradonna I would rather have either of them than a young zidane or van basten, maybe not ronaldo yet
Nebraska Red Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Messi is an amazing player. Just watch Barcelona when he does not play for them and see the difference it makes to their whole game from front to back. They struggle as they do not have the option of having him contro lthe ball for long periods of the game. He can play anywhere in midfield or attack, he frightens the crap out of defenders and can turn a game in an instant. What really impresses me is his desire to stay on his feet, unlike Placcy, and the fact that he does not continually whinge to referees. He gets the crap kicked out of him on a regular basis and still goes back for more. His only fault. He has no right foot, but to make up for that he is happy to play on either wing, but prefers the right side most of the time. He's one of the few players that you can watch regardless of who you support.
betterman Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Or putting it another way.... If you could sign one player in the world for Liverpool who would it be? For me, it would be Messi. An easy decision in fact.
JGL Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 Ronaldo for me, definately. Say what you want about him as a person, but as a player he´s just amazing. The non-liverpool player I enjoy watching the most. Obviously Messi is special as well, but Ronaldo's much more efficient.

RedMarauder Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 Or putting it another way.... If you could sign one player in the world for Liverpool who would it be? For me, it would be Messi. An easy decision in fact. You are correct, only in the easy decision - the amount of games single handedly won by 1 of those 2 makes it very easy. Ronaldo, ronaldo, ronaldo. The games I see and the reports I read of Barca is Messi goes missing in a fair number of games. It's nothing to do with personality as clearly we would all pick Messi, but Ronaldo is a clear all rounder and has been on fire consistently, even straight after injuries.
Falconhoof Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 'enjoy watching'can't understand that at all. He's hateful to watch. Just the way he stands over free kicks and the faces he pulls makes me sick.Doesn't matter how high quality his goals are, I can't take pleasure in his football.

I'd turn the TV off rather than watch that pompous, over blown git. His whole attitude makes me sick,he has skills but his demeanour just turns me off.

BG Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 Zidane, Van Basten, and the best of all, the Real Ronaldo were the 3 best since Maradona. I agree on those three. Ronaldo for a few seasons was just incredible. I seem to recall he scored something like 50 goals at Barca in a season. I also think Ronaldinho was an unbelievable player for a few years - many were saying he was the best since Maradona. He did things (eg the goal at Chelsea) which were utterly unexpected.

Cam Posted December 13, 2009 Posted December 13, 2009 I'm not sure about his form now and he was crap last season... but the Ronaldo of two years back p***es over any level that Messi has yet got to. I hate him and he epitimises everything that is wrong with football and players today but he is brilliant and effective. Anyone that denies that is insane. As for enjoying watching him... yeah, I did. Not in a "oooh, silky skills!" way but because I enjoyed the adrenaline of sitting there and wanting every tackle to wreck his legs; I'd rather feel hatred & bitterness during a match than nothing. I accompanied my dad to Ewood 3 or 4 years back for their game against the Mancs - he was worse than ever that day with his rolling around, appealing to the ref and stomping his arms into the ground; it was hilarious. Like I said... everything that is wrong with the game but hugely enjoyable.
_00_deathscar Posted December 13, 2009 Posted December 13, 2009 (edited) I'm not sure about his form now and he was crap last season... but the Ronaldo of two years back p***es over any level that Messi has yet got to. What about the level Messi got to last season? Scored 38 goals whilst also contributing 18 direct assists - in 51 games - including the goal to put the result of the European Cup final beyond doubt. Cristiano Ronaldo got 42 in 49 the season before that, and yes he dragged Man Utd to the title. There were very few assists in that though. Edited December 13, 2009 by _00_deathscar
Nebraska Red Posted December 14, 2009 Posted December 14, 2009 Placcy is a piece of ****. That is all.
