Swipe Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Real shame. Looked like he could have become a top player.
Spike Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 aye, top fella by all accounts too. Used to knock around town when he was at the Alex.
Superjay Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 And yet drogba & ronaldo still walk freely. Feckin shame had the potential to be shearer reincarnate and someone i'd have loved at the club.
Tones Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Could have been a top player. Lot of techique about him, such a pity. Career ruined by a meaningless england friendly.
Leo No.8 Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 (edited) Real shame that. I know a bloke who knows Ashton well through his family, and he's always said he's a really good guy - very down to earth. As others have said he had the potential to be a top striker, think he was just on the cusp of big things. He was awesome against us in the cup final, incredibly strong and gave Sami a tough time physically. Said on another thread about Ashton, the only two strikers I've ever seen outmuscle Hyypia are him and Niall Quinn. He was very much a back to goal type forward, no real pace but excellent technique, good in the air and finishing ability to go with his strength. F*cking tragic this injury first occured training for a meaningless international friendly. Rumours he may sue Sean Wright-Phillips who broke his ankle with the tackle in training. Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 yeah, liked Ashton. Thought his career plateaued for a while, but he came back strong. Would have loved to see him play for us. Hopefully he's got a nice enough nest-egg that he won't have to go into insurance sales or anything
_00_deathscar Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Rumours he may sue Sean Wright-Phillips who broke his ankle with the tackle in training. Suppose he's doing it because he missed out on half a career of being very well paid, but that's a bit harsh isn't it?
SkippyjonJones Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 I doubt if he’s doing it. The insurance company that is covering his wages may do that to try to recover something and they probably have the right to do that in his name. There’s also a dispute on how far back the injury occurred as he made a comeback from his original injury.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 Suppose he's doing it because he missed out on half a career of being very well paid, but that's a bit harsh isn't it?not if SWP said "I'm gonna bust your ankle, you c***"

lfc003 Posted December 11, 2009 Posted December 11, 2009 A real shame this however i wouldn't agree that he was as good a player as everyone is stating.
Leo No.8 Posted December 12, 2009 Posted December 12, 2009 Erm, Didier Drogba? In the words of Grandpa Simpson, I'll be deep in the cold, cold ground before I recognise Drogba.
