Liverpool FC's Javier Mascherano in talks over new contract

 

 

Liverpool FC are in talks to extend Javier Mascherano, manager Rafa Benitez has ben quoted as saying.

 

Mascherano has been widely linked with Barcelona, and could go for about £30m according to speculation.

 

But Liverpool FC boss Benitez insists the 25-year-old is happy and negotiations are ongoing to renew a deal that has two years remaining.

 

"We are happy and he is happier now," said Benitez. "The last conversations that we had were very positive.

 

"We were talking before and we will sit down sooner rather than later and talk about the future."

 

He added: "We were talking with him and his agent a month ago about our idea and his idea.

 

"Everyone can see he's doing really well and has come back to his best. We were really pleased to talk to him to make progress

 

"Clubs can forget about bidding for him - he has no price and he's happy here."

Good news if true. I was prepared (Resigned?! Gutted?) to see him leave if he wanted to - but if he wants to stay then I'm delighted. First bit of good news we seem to have had.. forever..

whatever, he looks alot happier and has been excellent for about 6 weeks now

 

I thought it was Barca but it may have been the Argentina stuff, who knows

No doubt this pay rise will come out of the summers transfer kitty and bring an end to the dead cert deal to bring in Villa, Silva, Mata etc.

 

It will be great if he signs with no fuss, he's a fantastic player but I'll wager this is just the start of the type of merry go round we embark on with agents which will finish with his departure in the Summer, normally it's a transfer target slipping onto another club.

 

Let's pay him the market rate and be done with it.

about the time he got back more to his usual level ? or at least started to ? He's such a quality player that he can get away with not being quite on it, and still be a candidate for top 3 in MOM awards, but recently there has definitely been a change. Hopefully a good clear the air chat has put him right. Either that or Rafa has "Xabi'd" him, and told him if he keeps quiet, plays hard, and doesn't speak to anyone, he can go to Barca when they offer big cash ?

 

Personally, if he's happy to stay, then I'd love to see him spend the next 3 or 4 years alongside Aquilani.

Get it right most times, just the odd one change here and there due to injury/fitness. Interestingly Gibbo gets the same team as me as well.

 

But it's a different person that passes the team on, so Masch is still odds on to stay, unless Team Person tells me he's going as well, which they wont because they just text me the team, which is why I call them Team Person.

i'd worry about getting the same info as Gibbo, the c**** he hangs around with
