Gunga Din Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 what is the full list of seeds? which teams will make up the "group of death"? there is always one in every world cup.
Des Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Why aren't France in that Top 8? They were finalists last time out, for fecks sake.
Mike Posted December 2, 2009 Author Posted December 2, 2009 'Portugal, currently ranked fifth, and France (seventh) had problems making the big tournament in South Africa and have thus missed out on the seedings - which reflect October's positions in the official table rather than the November ones.' The eight seeds will all be in pot one, with the remaining three pots drawn on regional boundaries. Each will face one team in pot three - a team from Asia, north or central America, or Oceania - one team from pot three - which has five African and three South American sides - and one from the exclusively European pot four. A worst case scenario on Friday would arguably see Fabio Capello's side take on France, Ivory Coast and the USA, while a far easier proposition on paper would have England facing Slovenia, Algeria and New Zealand.
Jarg Armani Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Starting to think England will do well. Have i lost my s***? By do well i mean beaten finalists or something. I've got a mad feeling they'll knock out Spain.

ManxRed Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 They might end up in that five team group, the one with Ireland in it. Oh, hang on....
Jarg Armani Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 The horror....the horror... Obviously we'll all have to move to the moon for the next hundred years, but it'd be GOOD FOR THE GAME.

Pot 1 (seeds): South Africa, Brazil, Spain, Holland, Italy, Germany, Argentina, England Pot 2 (Asia, Oceania and North/Central America): Japan, South Korea, North Korea, Australia, New Zealand, USA, Mexico, Honduras Pot 3 (Africa and South America): Ivory Coast, Ghana, Cameroon, Nigeria, Algeria, Paraguay, Chile, Uruguay Pot 4 (Europe): France, Portugal, Slovenia, Switzerland, Greece, Serbia, Denmark, Slovakia
Raj Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Starting to think England will do well. I think they will make the SF's with a decent draw.

Normally one of Argentina, Germany or Portugal recently. I think they could be semi-finalists, good draw finalists. I'm terrified. Edited December 2, 2009 by DarkBailo
Andy @ Allerton Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Teams I want to see do well.. Brazil (Lucas), Spain (Reina?, Torres etc.), Holland (Dirky, Babel), Argentina (Masch, Insua), Mexico (Like Mexico) Teams I want to see humiliated and out at the first stroke. South Africa, Italy, Germany, England, France, Portugal (Ronaldo plays for em), Teams I couldn't give a hoot about.. Japan, South Korea, North Korea, Australia, New Zealand, USA, Honduras, Ivory Coast, Ghana, Cameroon, Nigeria, Algeria, Paraguay, Chile, Uruguay, Slovenia, Switzerland, Greece, Serbia, Denmark, Slovakia
Andy @ Allerton Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Why aren't France in that Top 8? They were finalists last time out, for fecks sake. Cos no one likes them.

Likewise Agger for Denmark and Skrtel for Slovakia?
Raj Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 What about Gerrard and Johnson who are in the ENgland team. Likewise Agger for Denmark and Skrtel for Slovakia? Are you saying that there is no logic in what Andy has written?
Alonso Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 Are you saying that there is no logic in what Andy has written? Now, now, don't go putting words in my mouth!!
Andy @ Allerton Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 What about Gerrard and Johnson who are in the ENgland team. Likewise Agger for Denmark and Skrtel for Slovakia? Can never be bothered with Scandanavian teams. If the number of Liverpool players outweighed those I didn't like, then I'd be 'supporting' England. Each Liverpool player = + 1. Each neutral player gives 0 Each player I don't like = - 1 So, Plus players; Gerrard + Johnson = +2 Minus player (-1 per player) Rio Ferdinand, Wes Brown, Ashley Cole, Joe Cole, John Terry, Frank Lampard, Wayne Rooney, Michael Owen (If he's chosen), David Beckham, Gareth Barry, Ben Foster etc. etc. Means that I want England well and truly shafted.
Spike Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 France and Portugal bottom seeds because of having to do it through the play offs eh? This despite their current Fifa rankings. Likewise, why is the team that made it through the South America play off system not seeded bottom? Sounds like an agreed trade off amongst France, Portugal and Fifa, in turn for the play offs being seeded all of a sudden. Fecking stinks this does.
yellow jumper Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 France and Portugal bottom seeds because of having to do it through the play offs eh? This despite their current Fifa rankings. france and portugal got ranking points available to no one else for winning their play-off games, it's been done on the previous list for that reason.

Only the top 8 teams are seeded and the rest are separated according to Federation, or thats how I read it.Therefore the South American team is not seeded, likewise Portugal and France. They are placed in different pots to ensure that you dont end up with a group of European/South American teams, etc Also, I believe that competitive games provide more ranking points, so its a bit unfair to allow any play off team the opportunity to be seeded, if others above are not playing competitively.
