Spirit Of Shankly Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 SOS planned protest for the Fiorentina game on the 9th December. Details here - http://www.spiritofshankly.com/news/Fioren...-_-Protest.html Spirit of Shankly
Sion Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 So basically SOS are just saying take a load of banners and chant a bit? Dissapointed if i'm being honest. Won't get a better chance for higher action than this for a long time.
Andy @ Allerton Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 Sensible by SOS. Effective chanting (Like the BBC Justice one) will get far more attention and will be far more worthwhile than a few people shuffling off for a burger. And it will be less dangerous than fans fighting when other fans attempt to prevent them entry to the ground.

The game will be on the tele, fans won't have to worry about it having a negative effect on the players on the pitch as it's a dead rubber, and it's an ideal time to stoke up the fires again.

Only asked for Protests during the game at Leeds before and we are asking for people to do it now in what some seem as a meaningless game. Too soon for another march, Boycott was voted against by our members at the last mass meeting and most tickets were bought prior to going out. Not just wanting two banners at the front though and 300 people chanting stuff at the back. We want 50 banners if not loads more and thousands chanting stuff.

Organise a full on walk out at half time for as many as have the bottle.
Andy @ Allerton Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 Organise a full on walk out at half time for as many as have the bottle. And potentiall cause safety issues at the ground? Don't forget the external turnstiles don't open until 75 minutes of the game have elapsed.
CarraLegend Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 it will be on telly yes, but tucked away on screen 6 of a sky multi choice. its a dead game. how many will watch it? Nah it'll be skys main game, we are still the biggest draw.

Jacks Jackie Jackson Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 And potentiall cause safety issues at the ground? Don't forget the external turnstiles don't open until 75 minutes of the game have elapsed. Yes they do. They open many of them at half time for them as likes a smoke. I don't know about other stands but in ours (the Kemlyn), they do anyway.
stressederic Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 Nah it'll be skys main game, we are still the biggest draw. I'm not so sure it will be. Considering that both Barca and Inter will be playing on that night and both could still go out, that'll get top billing I suspect.
PeeG Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 It is on Sky Sports 2. http://www.skysports.com/story/0,19528,12942,00.html ITV has one game on a wednesday and they have got Arsenal so we are on Sky.
Gomez Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 it will be on telly yes, but tucked away on screen 6 of a sky multi choice. its a dead game. how many will watch it? It's a Liverpool match, Liverpool fans will watch it as long as they can, and that is who counts. No point in protesting to the neutrals, how would that help?

No point in protesting to the neutrals, how would that help?If its only seen by Liverpool fans then its not going to work, as the whole point is to get as much publicity as possible, to try and put some pressure on the owners through bad publicity, also to try and make the banks a bit concerned about refinancing again next year. To be honest I'm not sure a few banners and chanting is going to get the required publicity, think some form of walk out, non return after half time would have been more effective.

As was said above a boycott was voted against so not so sure a walkout would be supported either. You could only ever walk out when we were winning as well. Imagine the headlines if we walked out at 2-0 down at half time even if it was pre planned some media would still like to paint a picture how they want it.

I hope I am wrong but I think it has to be a bit more visible to get the necessary press coverage, if you have a pre-planned protest then hopefully a well prepared press release would have gone out.

Can see where you are coming from and are press release will have gone out, but look at the mach. There was at least 5000 there but some media said there was only a few hundred there. You have to look at what is feasible and what will get the most support. It is hard to get it perfect every time, but have to try and do something that will give you a fighting chance.

I don't know about other stands but in ours (the Kemlyn), they do anyway. That beeping you hear on 75 minutes is all the doors being released. If you go down earlier than 75 minutes then, although the odd door might be open, there won't be the stewards around to deal with any issues that might occur - the majority of stewards will still be in the ground looking after the crowd. It wouldn't be safe for a vast mob of people to leave en-masse before the gates are all opened. Safety of supporters should be first priority. Always.
DJS Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 I heard of a lower league game being abandoned the other week, due to a fan protest - cant remember what game or what the fans did to get the game abandoned, but if people want to do something that'd get huge attention, this would work.

Chester City it was. Against Eastbourne. The numbers were in their 10's so would be hard to work at a top level game at those numbers. melia Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 If there's no boycott or no walkout but the game is on the telly, why not get everyone to show their arses to the cameras?
Andy @ Allerton Posted November 30, 2009 Posted November 30, 2009 If there's no boycott or no walkout but the game is on the telly, why not get everyone to show their arses to the cameras? Most of the people on here are so ugly, it'd be an improvement.
floyd the barber Posted December 1, 2009 Posted December 1, 2009 (edited) sorry but holding up banners, etc aint gonna get the press nor attention this requires.. While i appreciate the efforts of those participating...i honestly dont see the point in holding a demonstration this way....It needs something unique something that will actualyl create broad interest not just across the country but world.... ie...the kop completely empty(my favoured demonstration) with one massive banner in the fans place mass walkout after the kickoff fans form a circle outside, around anfield during the game and chant Edited December 1, 2009 by Lets get Masched
