floyd the barber Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 thought he was outstanding first half......only 20 and i see huge potential in this lad.. Has a great touch, fantastic movement off the ball and definetly has an eye for goalHes done a decent job filling in for torres....reminds of a young trezeguet oh and i was gonna add insua to the positive thread...`cept he had an awful 2nd half...which seems a common thing for him
New York Red Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 He's really impressed. Seems like he's got a great atitude too. He's got a long way to go but I have loads of optimism about him.
New York Red Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 he's no Heskey..... Well he's not playing out of position every week, so he's got that advantage over Emile.
Loblaw Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Well he's not playing out of position every week, so he's got that advantage over Emile. Not being completely s**** helps too.
stressederic Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 I mentioned ages ago that he's got a fair few goals coming in at the back post like that for headers directed back across goal. Handy knack to have being in the right place at the right time like that.
honourablegeorge Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 He's not amazing, but he's solid, and improving. He holds it up well on his own, which is hard for a young lad. Seems to link with Gerrard well too. Nice to see a young lad developing like that.
Bailo Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 I think he struggled last night, little service but I don't think he's a one-up guy, I think he'd prosper alongside another striker, poaching in the box or hanging on the last defender's shoulder. That said, hard to judge again because the sum total of balls played to him were to his chest or head. Rarely did he get the chance to run at them.
Bailo Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Another postive for me though was Carra and Agger - our best CB partnership and I'm so glad we tied down Agger. Hopefully he can stay fit.
Chili Palmer Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 He's not amazing, but he's solid, and improving. He holds it up well on his own, which is hard for a young lad. Seems to link with Gerrard well too. Nice to see a young lad developing like that. I think he has a long way to go obviously but the signs are good, having said that the signs were good about Insua at the end of last season and he has regressed dramatically this season, young players will have massive ups and downs in terms of form.

But I'm just happy that we have a young player, the first attacker in a while, that actually makes me think "this lad could be a player" at least once a match. I like the Gogfather and think he's doing well given the circumstances.
bazz Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 He looks like a very promising player, but is crying out for a partner upfront to get some of the strain. If he was English, everyone would be raving about him and asking for him to be included in the England Squad.

Moe Szyslak Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Been really impressed with him so far, really seems to have toughened up this year and was holding the ball up well but he was just very isolated. I just feel if either Torres is missing we're probably better off playing two upfront. Very few players can effectively play the lone striker role and tend to be of the caliber of Torres or Drogba, N'Gog looks a great prospect and he looks a Liverpool player when he plays but at this stage in his career I think it's a bit too much to ask him to play that role at this stage of his career.
deacon Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 to be honest.. whats the difference between him and Carlton Cole apart from the number of starts.. even then he has managed 5 in 8 which is decent enough.. A lot of difference, even if N'Gog has impressed.
Red Kent Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Ngog has improved, but I still think he cannot lead the line by himself. I would like to see him in a 4-4-2 formation.
Scaryscouse Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 (edited) Have been quite impressed by him but noticed one thing. When he's chasing an over the top ball, he tends to almost let the defender get ahead of him then choose to always try and run around the outside of him. Sure, it'll work every now and again but I noticed a few times he could have tried his luck, in what I would have assumed was the better position on the defenders inside. But then again. I'm not 20 and playing and scoring goals for Liverpool. Hope he keeps it up. Edited November 25, 2009 by Scaryscouse
Knox_Harrington Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Souness' Muzzy. This was THE positive of the evening for me.
Rimbeux Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 to be honest.. whats the difference between him and Carlton Cole apart from the number of starts.. even then he has managed 5 in 8 which is decent enough.. Massive Cole is a bit of a beast and a battering ram, the proto forward that is doing well in the PL these days, ie one all about occupying two centre halves and allowing a team to play five in midfield or a static central midfield and create a really solid team base, but not necessarily one who'll score a lot. It's become almost default since Drogba and if one of these lads goes on a scoring run, then the hype goes into overdrive and not without justification considering how effective this type of player is.
johngibo YPC Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 (edited) Souness' Muzzy. Outstanding Insua was much improved first half. God knows what happened to him secondN'goals has a few this season now doesn't he. You could argue that once Nemeth comes back next season we are reasonably well covered up there if we are looking to play mostly one up top. This presumes that both continue to progress well all seasonWe could still do with this mythical player who can play up top and as part of the three behind though. And not Dirk Edited November 25, 2009 by johngibo YPC

longtimered Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 I agree that he shows some promise.I worry that he's really just about ok for the 4th striker role rather than being asked to operate in a 4-5-1 system as the back up striker.Hope we dont ask too much of him.
Tones Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Needs to bulk up and be more agressive and react quicker, but he is improving all the time. With god coachign could become a very good striker.
