GWistooshort Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 ANDREY ARSHAVIN has hailed the best supporters in the world – but they are not at the Emirates. The Arsenal player said Russian fans should learn how to support their team better by taking lessons from Liverpool’s supporters. Before Russia’s 2-1 win over Slovenia in a World Cup play off on Saturday, he said: “Our fans need to learn from the English football supporters, and in particular from Liverpool fans.” Told that Chelsea star Yuri Zhirkov was awe-struck about the support Manchester United fans gave their team against CSKA Moscow in the recent Champion’s League clash, he said: “It’s only because he hasn’t played against Liverpool yet.” http://www.liverpooldailypost.co.uk/liverp...00252-25186914/
Swipe Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Now if he just sorted out his goal celebration I could maybe start to like him
Buzz Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 HAHA, very funny indeed. And true of course....
richwilks Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 He's clearly gutted we didn't sign him. He could have been a top player with us, shame we didn't get him instead of Keane,
Silencio Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 He's clearly gutted we didn't sign him. He could have been a top player with us, shame we didn't get him instead of Keane, It really is a shame because they are the same age, were in the same price bracket and Arshavin can cover a number of positions (the Torres role, the Gerrard role and the wings). Also, Arshavin's boss and Keane is a loser.
Leo No.8 Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Really should have signed him, shame we didn't. Similar price to Robbie Keane - funnily enough at the time I'd have said that Keane was the safer bet as he was Premier League proven, shows what I know. Arshavin is a wonderful little player, reminds me of Beardsley at his best. Love those comments as well, but makes me more annoyed we didn't get him.
stressederic Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Zenit seemed to be asking a lot mroe for him during that summer transfer window which is why they wouldn't let him go. It was only in January that his price dropped down again and Arsenal picked him up.
kop205 Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Good player, awful goal celebration. I almost combusted seeing him do it 4 times at Anfield last season but it just seems that is his 'thing' and it isn't aimed at anyone. He looks a bit dim so probably can't think of anything else. As for buying him - cracking player but with the form of Benayoun his 'type' probably wasn't a priority really (though yes, he would have done better than Keane).
Loblaw Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 (edited) The one that got away. We could have gotten him with the Keane money an all. Would have completely transformed the side.. The crazy thing, and for me just highlights the sh*te scouting at the Club and/or Rafa's distrust of flair/creative players, is this lad was playing for Zenit the time we bought Skrtel from them. And anyone who seen him play couldn't have failed to be massively impressed by him, and that was before he had a fantastic couple of games in the Euro's. He absolutely ran the show for Zenit on their way to the UEFA Cup. Edited November 17, 2009 by Loblaw

Stevie H Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 my favourite premiership player outside our club. beardsley would approve.

fred milne Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 As for buying him - cracking player but with the form of Benayoun his 'type' probably wasn't a priority really.I don't see why you couldn't accomodate them both in the same side provided you have a heavyweight midfield, which we did have last year.
Stevie H Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 I don't see why you couldn't accomodate them both in the same side provided you have a heavyweight midfield, which we did have last year.i envision aquilani as a less lightweight version of arshavin. i realise this is neglecting the injury record.

Oh yeah you could, but as I said it maybe just wasn't the priority (although in truth it was probably only really after Jan that Benayoun really started to show his best form so maybe a case could be made). We didn't get to soend the Keane money in Jan anyway and the pervious summer they wanted more than we paid for Keane so it is all probably a moot point really.
Sion Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 he's a right a*** around the training ground allegedly
ManxRed Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Chelsea star Yuri Zhirkov Wasn't he a character in Flesh Gordon?
deacon Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Benitez would never sign a player as lazy as Arshavin, regardless of how brilliant he is.

Cam Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 Reminds me a lot of (Brazilian) Ronaldo. Not in the way that he plays but for the fact he can do nothing in a game and then bang... he's scored a couple of cracking goals.
