Looks like Yaya Toure could go to City so guess that's why they will be in for him...

Losing him doesn't scare me as much as it would have two seasons back. I just wish we still had Xabi.

It still hurts that Xabi's gone. He was one of us.

Any room in there ?

Not really, it's full of liverpool fans celebrating the appointment of mourinho thinking we're winning the league ;)

If Masch wants to go - and that goes for all the players - then tough. You can't keep players that don't want to stay.

IF we get money for him and IF the stupid w***** owners let our Manager spend any of it then it won't be too bad.

If they don't let Rafa spend the £35M+£20M+£20M (less the £5M for Aquilani and less the £7M for Johnson) then I'll be well pissed off.

hugely overrated. accept anything around what we (absurdly) paid

i think he is massively over rated as well. is usefull in half a dozen games a year, and to be honest, over the last 12 months, Lucas has been better for us than Mascherano

Thought it was just me. I think people are a little blinded to his actual performances by the reputation of the player.

We'd be better off with a consistent, more rounded midfielder than an occasional world class defensive midfielder.

IF it was around the £30 mil then we would be stupid to turn it down with the current situation......

Hick's house needs a refurb and Gillett wants a couple of more cars. A bit of the money could also go to sorting out some debt on a baseball club and a track (car) team.

It was hardly an 'absurd' fee in the context of what the going rate seems to be for a midfielder these days and when he was paired with Alonso there were very few complaints about him (although I know some still questioned the need for him at home, for example).

The problem is that him and Lucas just isn't a partnership and - certainly long term - they shouldn't both be in the same starting 11. I've been a vocal supporter of Lucas in the other thread and his form has certainly been taking the opposite trajectory to Macherano's over the last year.

When Mascherano is showing the 100% passion that he showed when he first arrived then there is still a role for him provided the balance around him is right and I'd like to see him alongside Aquilani before writing him off totally. Given that Aquilani is likely to play further forward than Alonso did, I can see how Mascherano could still be a very useful asset to have.

The biggest problem is that for a variety of reasons the fire has seemed to have gone from his belly a bit (albeit it with signs in a few recent games that it might be back). When that is missing then he is always likely to look very ordinary. If - due to his head being turned by Barca - it has gone for good then he doesn't really have much to contribute. I just think it is a bit simplistic to say that he is 'hugely overrated' or that we should be glad to get what we paid for him.

he's not been great in the last 12 months, but lets not forget that he is a top draw player at his best. Watching him play, it seems like he's trying or otherwise to change his game and role from the all action DM into more of a playmaker; runs a lot less, passes a lot more, not necessarily the best use of his abilities

If he was playing for united, and Ferguson sold him, it would be an inspired bit of business, no?

We all know the football press are a bunch of ****s so there is no point worrying about it anymore.

Rafa doesn't play their game so they work against him. The sheep follow.

With the prospect of Aquilani being much more forward thinking and sitting higher up the park than Alonso i think it would be a terrible move.

Depends who we replace him with
