David Hodgson Posted November 14, 2009 Author Posted November 14, 2009 (edited) no, run only PLTBT Edited November 14, 2009 by David Hodgson
David Hodgson Posted November 14, 2009 Author Posted November 14, 2009 OK, I've now run the rule on Carlton on wiki and Youtube and am now an expert on him. He seems to have a Heskey like scoring record.
Leo No.8 Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 (edited) He can shut now, hadn't been able to until about the middle of last season. I don't know how it compares but I'd be looking at his goalscoring record from 2008 onwards because he is a different player to what he was before then. I'm sure it will be better, because he has added goals to his game recently which makes him a different proposition. I think Cole'd be a fantastic signing - he is an absolute monster in terms of size and strength, who could flourish with us. Edited November 14, 2009 by Leo No.8
Gunga Din Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 he is very heskey like, without the annoying habit of limping off. he is exactly what we need and a much better option than Knox's bum chum at Bolton
Rory Fitzgerald Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 So, what will one bankrupt club pay the other bankrupt club with, magic beans ?
BG Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 London Evening Standard back page story a few days ago was how we and Manchester United want him in January.
kop205 Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 OK, I've now run the rule on Carlton on wiki and Youtube and am now an expert on him. He seems to have a Heskey like scoring record. He seems to have improved markedly this season and last (16 in his last 37 League games isn't bad at all) but I didn't realise he was 26! I thought he was about 23! He's at an age where you'd want and need an instant return really. BBC gossip things is reporting that the Mancs will bid £20m for him in January (they're idiots if so - they'd only need to bid about £6m to put us out of the frame).
Leo No.8 Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 £20mln Thats just silly. I'd pay something like £12m, the fee previously mentioned and whilst still high for a forward who has only actually produced for about 12 months is more realistic.

If we were to spend more than that I think we'd regret it to be honest. Agree with Leo he's improved the last year or two, but he's still far from the finished article, and at 26 I think West Ham are spreading this 20 million nonsense in an attempt to cash in. I think he flatters to deceive most of the time, looks like he's really putting effort into just trying to control the ball, not a naturally gifted player at the top level for me. I'd have him as a squad player ahead of Voronin, but not sure he's much better than N'Gog, if at all, with less upside. Wouldn't want us to blow much of our meagre budget on him.
Tones Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 He was very highly rated as a youngster but never really lived up to it. Seems to be improving though.
Earl Hafler Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 (they're idiots if so - they'd only need to bid about £6m to put us out of the frame). If they bid £6m we can match it with a £12m + Voronin bid.
David Hodgson Posted November 14, 2009 Author Posted November 14, 2009 Is Cole quick ? Instinctively I'd prefer Kenwynne Jones, but I suppose the 'English factor' counts in Cole's favour.
Earl Hafler Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 I thought Cole played really well for England a couple of games ago, then was dropped in favour of the battering ram. He's a decent player
Hassony Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 Is Cole quick ? Instinctively I'd prefer Kenwynne Jones, but I suppose the 'English factor' counts in Cole's favour. Jones is rubbish, really can't see what's so special about him Cole was one of the worst players in the league until last season, but he seems to have improved immensely under Zola

Cole would be a brilliant signing.
Cunny Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 and with what are we buying Cole in January? Magic beans?

I watched him closely up at Sunderland recently and was very impressed. A really tough competitor, and quick to boot.
Toni Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 Cole is s***. He slow and clumsy. Would nt want him anywhere near Anfield. Pavlyuchenko as i stated before is the realistic option we should aim for to reinforce our attacking options. I say realistic cos he a very good player whose not playing cos of favouritisms. He s better than keane or crouch...cant see why he s not playing.

Both of their games seem built around their strength.

lfc003 Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 Cole is an poor footballer who is in a good run of form at the moment. In my opinion he doesn't have the ability or mental attributes to succeed at a club looking to win major honours every season. Although he's not my ideal choice with the need for a targetman high im surprised no one has mentioned Marouane Chamakh of Bordeaux, Chamakh has a similar scoring record to Cole but would be a heck of alot cheaper considering his contract is expiring in the summer.
GWistooshort Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 West Ham have issued a hands off warning.............. "A spokesman at Upton Park insisted last night that Cole is "not for sale", and added: "We want to keep all our best players and the suggestion that we need to sell because of a financial crisis is not true." http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/...-Hams-Cole.html
