Gunga Din Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 New Zealand through to the finals after beating Bahrain
muleskinner Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 Just had my brother on the phone from the ground, said it was a fantastic atmosphere, first qualification since 1974 for the All Whites I think.
Andy @ Allerton Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 Just think, if the FA weren't so pathetically corrupt, people might actually care about Internationals. Gone from loving them to liking them to hating them.
smithdown Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 Poor arl Bahrain always go out at this stage. Looks like a pwopah nawty one in Cairo today, seen footage of the players all wanting to fight with each other too: Security is being stepped up in Cairo ahead of a potentially volatile football match between Egypt and Algeria on Saturday. Several Algerian players were slightly injured when their team bus was pelted with rocks by Egyptian fans. The sport’s ruling body, FIFA, has asked Egyptian authorities for written guarantees of additional security measures, but has announced that the match will go ahead. Safety fears are such that the Egyptian and Algerian presidents have telephoned each other to discuss the matter. The match is crucial to both teams’ hopes of qualifying for next year’s world cup, with Egypt needing to win by a three goal margin to make the tournament at Algeria’s expense http://www.euronews.net/2009/11/13/egypt-f...geria-team-bus/

Gone from loving them to liking them to hating them. i've no time for friendlies, or indeed qualifiers in general. love the world cup and european championships though
Rory Fitzgerald Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 Tonights game in Croke Park between Ireland and France is likely to be more like a game of water polo rather than football - poxy weather
Andy @ Allerton Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 i've no time for friendlies, or indeed qualifiers in general. love the world cup and european championships though I used to really enjoy them, but can't take much pleasure in them now. Like when England play, I actively detest 90% of the playing staff - how can I possible cheer or feel happy when a gonk like Rooney plays well or bangs a goal in? Just can't get how some can dislike a player in a club shirt and then go through a turnaround to suddenly be really happy with them on the International stage. Perhaps it's just me.

surf Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 i'd love it if ireland and bosnia went through
muleskinner Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 i'd love it if ireland and bosnia went through Bosnia have got a great chance, Ronaldo is out of both games for Portugal.
Gunga Din Posted November 14, 2009 Author Posted November 14, 2009 Over 35,000 were at this game, a record for a football game down there. i'm delighted to see New Zealand through. i think its a disgrace that Oceania dont have an automatic qualifying place, and we have a situation where the Aussies are effectively depriving an Asian country from qualifying
Gunga Din Posted November 14, 2009 Author Posted November 14, 2009 (edited) Bosnia have got a great chance, Ronaldo is out of both games for Portugal. Ireland have a great chance too. Domenech calling Ireland "an England B team" will hopefully come back and haunt him. plus it will f*** that c*** Platini off Edited November 14, 2009 by Gunga Din

Agree with your point about Oceania too, the Aussies being in the Asian section is ridiculous.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 Ireland havent got a farking prayer and I know, I've watched the Irish team, they cant hold their piss. I've lost count of the games in which they have taken the lead against teams and only drawn.
growler Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 for me, the six weeks gone from this season to internationals already just s***s me. Why not have all 6 weeks in one go, towards the end of October, it may be a mini tourny, and be done with it.

Looks like a pwopah nawty one in Cairo today, seen footage of the players all wanting to fight with each other too: yeah Bahrain are unlucky, they have done to get to this stage considering their population is less then portsmouth the Egypt game will be a classic today, at least it will gurantee at least one arabic presence at the wc, they have done so badly this year

Gunga Din Posted November 14, 2009 Author Posted November 14, 2009 Uruguay Vs Costa Rica is on tonight. that should be a tasty game
Hassony Posted November 14, 2009 Posted November 14, 2009 the first leg is in Costa Rica, and they play on artificial grass, so it will be interesting
Gunga Din Posted November 14, 2009 Author Posted November 14, 2009 decent day of sport today. 3 qualifiers on one after the other, plus all the rugby and some tennis. its a s**** day outside, so good excuse (not that one is needed) to sit and watch sport all day and annoy the squaw

Bahrain spanked them and should have won. Shame really, they seem to have some pretty handy players.
