How much longer can we go on playing Torres at barely 50%? He looked utterly f***ed last night and could barely stretch his legs.

The lad needs a good few weeks off before some serious damage is done. Given the pressure Rafa is under from all sides is he too scared to leave him out against his own better judgement?

I mentioned in the match thread that if Gerrard and Torres definately need ops and realistically we end up only playing for the FA Cup will they force their ops early to get themselves sorted for the World Cup? Both of them must think they have a realistic chance of winning the thing.

What a big, stinking, mess of a season.

Obviously Rafa and the physios at the club will know what the injuries need, but looking at them it really does look like they'll need operations.

Don't think what you say about Torres being at 50% last night is too much of an exaggeration. He doesn't look comfortable at all. A few times at corners he had his hands on his kness, breathing heavily.

We really are risking him by continuing to play him. Especially given the lone role he performs and the battering he gets.

I imagine Rafa is trying to nurse them towards the international break and then assess, but Gerrard could have had his operation by now and recovered (Elisha mentioned it was a minor op - one that Michael Carrick has and was playing 11 days later).

If they both need ops, they should be booked in today. The season has been disastrous, but we need to buckle up and make sure we get a top 4 place again at least. And obviously, we'll need both Stevie and Nando to make sure of that.

nowhere near fit but he does that even when he is at 100%. The old 'I'm knackered, can't be f***ed with this...spin...score' trick

Thought that too, but he was still doing it as the corner was being swung in!

It's horrible watching him play at the moment, cringing anytime he gets fouled and just waiting for him to break down.

Haven't a clue, mate. Some of the rags speculated two months, but don't know where they got that figure from, especially as they can't seem to agree whether it's a groin problem or a hernia.

It's said that Torres should get better with rest, but he may need an op as last resort. In the mean time the lack of adequate back up is glaring and sadly he remains our best bet up front.

With Gerrard it seems clear that he is being given every chance to recover without an op that according to ES would have him back playing in two weeks. It seems he had some kind of injection in a bid to cure it and his reaction is now being assessed. I'd reckon if it's not done the trick he'll have the op in the coming days with a view to being back for Man City.

No real issue with how either player is being handled, it's not unusual for both to be injured a fair bit, and it's not a situation we should still be cursing in itself, the cursing is/should be aimed at the fact that Yossi is probably the next most potent attacking player we have, flawed as he is.

The international break should come at a good time.

Get Gerrard in for surgery if it's required and rest Torres up.

If Stevie has no chance for Monday, then he should have been in 1/2 weeks ago.

Says me, that won't go near a doctor for love nor money!!

Inguinal hernias don't get better without surgery as far as I'm aware. If that is the problem for Torres then I'm surprised he is even on the pitch and more surprised that they are saying it is improving.

Didn't they say that his condition was actually improving while he is playing and training.

To me that points to it not being as serious as some would have you think.

This is true, needs surgery and a month rest but they were probably hoping he'd play through it and get something out of nothing like his goal at Fulham.

If it is an inguinal hernia it won't be improving, which as you say points to it being something else. They are fairly easy to diagnose what with a lump of intestine sticking through your groin.

There was a moment last night where Torres got fouled and it looked like part of a large plaster had come loose and was peeking out from his shorts

He's so pretty and the fact he's almost surprisingly hard and up for a bit of argy bargy just makes him even dreamier.

As opposed to Voronin's "I am fit and good, pass me the ball" one

inguinal hernias come and go but when they come then believe me the pain is unbearable. Leaves you short of breath which would explain why Torres keeps taking breathers, i was back riding racehorses 2weeks from the day of the op!! get him in and get it done

Fernando Torres flew to Spain to consult a specialist surgeon yesterday, amid growing fears he will require a hernia operation.

The Liverpool striker sought a second opinion at a private clinic in Valencia from one of his country’s top consultants, after scans yesterday revealed the problem is not easing.

Torres was visited the Spire Private Hospital on Merseyside, where he underwent tests on the problem that has troubled him for the past month.

Medical staff at Anfield have been trying to manage the Spanish star’s hernia problem with an extensive programme of treatment and rest, and they hoped to steer him through the next few weeks without any further discomfort.

Unless he can be back by the end of the international break then he can't go in for surgery until January at least when we can bring a striker in.

We'd be f***ed.
