madaboutlfc Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 As we know the club is already struggling as it is to spend anything on player transfers and squad improvements and the CL revenue is hugely relevant for our American owners. If we were to not qualify for the CL where would that leave us? What implications does it have on the owners and will we be asset stripped and therefore be on a downward spiral. Is it not possible to have some sort of government legislation protect us as our finances are not due to excessive spending on transfers etc. Are we in real danger of being another Leeds?
Iver Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 I think it would spell the end for the Americans, but the major downside is that I could not see players of the calibre of Torres, Gerrard, Reina, Masch etc hanging around to play in the Europa League.
Iver Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 how would it spell the end of the americans? They are very much dependent on CL revenue to stay afloat in terms of refinancing and loan interest repayments. I would go so far as to say that defeat on Weds night will put them under serious pressure.
Tosh Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 I reckon the banks would get very worried if we lose on Weds and put G&H under more pressure.
Andy @ Allerton Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 It would be good in a way becuse hopefully it would mean a large slice of our clueless w***** fans would go and 'support' someone else instead of Liverpool. Might even be worth getting relegated to get shot of some of these clueless f***ing w*****s.

Andy @ Allerton Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Now that's a bit silly. Just thought I'd join in with the general air of silliness Managed to find a good spot off Berry Street the other night - will use that again in future too - cheers for that!
Gunga Din Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 we'll either lose the manager and best players and end up messing about in mid table for a few years til we get new investment and better playersor we'd keep the manager and players and get new ownersor we'd lose the manager, keep the players, get new ownersor, we lose players, managers, get new owners and start from scratch

Jarg Armani Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 apart from the first.. the rest are better than the current situation assuming the new owners are like man city and why would one assume that?
Tommy Cockles Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 The most serious implication of falling out of the top 4 is that I don't think we would get back in it for a while. Assuming it is City that supplant us, you could expect their owners to ratchet up their spending again. Whearas we would have less revenue to add to the already difficult financial position. Add to that the degrading of our attraction to top players who demand CL football and it would be catastrophic. Arsenal seem to be on the up again & the Mancs & Chelsea arent going anywhere. We are in a very, very bad place if we don't finish 4th.
doug_mac Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 we've had a bad month with a crippling injury list and there is still two thirds of the season to go, two home league games up next and then everton away, 3 wins and things look better anyway who is going to break into top 4?? spurs?? dont make me laugh! villa?? no chancecity have a shout but i wouldn't put money on them we will finish in the top four coz we are one of the best 4 teams in the england, we have had our bad spell and we will have players back from injury so we can kick on and move up the league

MFletcher Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 We're be in serious danger of doing a Leeds. The interest charges could not be sustained on Europa League income.
madaboutlfc Posted November 1, 2009 Author Posted November 1, 2009 We're be in serious danger of doing a Leeds. The interest charges could not be sustained on Europa League income.it would result in player sales with Torres being the most valuable asset at the moment.. The American apologists on here do not see that and blame Rafa.. Leeds were not as big as Liverpool back then but they are a big club and among the top 10 in England
Metro Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 I personally think there may be another 70 million pound bid for Torres from Man City in the summer if we don't finish in the top four and are out of Europe.
oli-marson Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 (edited) I personally think there may be another 70 million pound bid for Torres from Man City in the summer if we don't finish in the top four and are out of Europe. Also Gerrard, Mascherano, and Reina. They would also be sold because the owners wouldnt be able to pay the interest on the loans. Edited November 1, 2009 by oli-marson
McBain Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 I'd take an exodus of players if it meant the owners f***ing off
aka Dus Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 Now that's a bit silly. Andy might be joking but it's been expressed as a serious point by some opinion formers on here.
aka Dus Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 I'd take an exodus of players if it meant the owners f***ing off And just like the management hypothesis of "who'd you get to replace Rafa", who would replace G&H that would be so worth this absolute catastrophe you'd accept? I'm no apologist for G&H but this idea that whoever will take over from them will automatically pump cash in to the club and solve our problems might be the single biggest self delusion Liverpool fans have convinced themselves of in 20 years.

I dont expect that. I hope for owners to come in who would run the club sensibly and quietly. Abramovich style ownership is wishful thinking

My thought about your question is that we'll become a selling club. I'm not sure we could become another Leeds but not accruing the CL revenue would probably mean we'd have a 'trade deficit' that only selling players could make up.
aka Dus Posted November 1, 2009 Posted November 1, 2009 I dont expect that. I hope for owners to come in who would run the club sensibly and quietly. Abramovich style ownership is wishful thinking What you're hoping for is someone to come in and spend their own money to buy the club and its debt without any reasonable expectation of a return on their investment in the medium term. How realistic is that? Far more realistic is a trope of G&H - running the club to service a huge debt (existing debt or that required to fund a new stadium). Apologies for putting words in your mouth and I'm not having a go but we have debt and will continue to have debt until it's paid off by whatever business model the club is run on or until someone buys the debt - an Abramovich of some degree.
