Strange one this. Offal

Damien Plessis has signed an extension to his current Liverpool contract that will keep him at Anfield until 2012. The 21-year-old midfielder has been named as an unused substitute for the Reds on four occasions so far this season, and has made a total of seven appearances for the senior side since his arrival from Lyon in August 2007.

Plessis is a regular in John McMahon's reserve team squad and is also a French under-21 international.

Means we'll get £1.5m from Lens or Sochaux for him in a years time, not much more than that IMO. He's currency, Rafa just sees him as a big pound sign with boots on running around the training pitch.

weird. I'd bin him immediately.

I know he'll probably be MOM tonight or something daft like that and fair play if so but I can barely bring myself to watch him do everything so, so, so slowly.

We won't have the money to buy many squad players so Rafa is probably resigned to giving the ones we do have every chance.

New contracts come out of his transfer fund though, don't they?

I know it won't be a fortune, but every penny counts. And Plessis (that Arsenal game aside) has looked dreadful.

The Purslow Doctrine.

Suspect only contracts they want to come out of his transfer fund come out of his transfer fund. We'll do the maths after the banks tell us what the answer is and everyone has to smile about it.

Pound sign with boots - Rafa couldn't even tell you what he looks like anymore.

If pressed he'd describe him as thin and green with curly bits at the top and bottom and a line through the middle.

Can't wait to hear Purslow use this as an excuse when we sell Torres next summer. "Oh but Rafa got to keep Plessis, didn't he? Don't say we don't spend 'round 'ere!".

who would pay for him, and how much would they pay?

Lower tier French team would give us a million, or maybe a bit more I reckon. Just like with Diarra who never even played a first team game for us before being sold back to France for a fee along those lines.

Plessis has at least played a few times.

Diarra had two full seasons of first-team football with Le Havre and Bastia before we sold him.

Plessis's played a handful of senior games in his life.

What's happened-he was good against Arsenal that time, and was rated here a couple of seasons back.

He did ok (and no more than that) in the first half against what was probably the most anaemic Arsenal midfield performance I can recall.

It was open season on Xabi Alonso at the time and I remember some clown coming on here the next day confirming we could sell him as we had Plessis now.

Its only an extension, is that the same as an increase?
