Listening to Carlton f***ing Palmer and some other bloke after the game it was like we had played Carlton Palmer upfront.. I thought the lad did well for 70% of the game and then in the end made mistakes which could be attributed to tiredness..He looked a more than adequate backup for me who will improve with game time

I like him purely because he has confidence. When others take the ball in and lay off or dont gamble, he is more than prepared to take a player on and showed a lovely piece of skill in their box.

Shame he played in a team tonight that only looked threatening for 10 mins in the 1st half and perhaps 5mins in the 2nd half :(

I thought he did well. He tried to hold the ball up, link up with Kuyt and Benayoun. Also wasn't afraid to have a dig or try a trick. By far a better choice at the moment than Babel.

He played very well, but I think a lot of people will only remember the miss from Kelly's cross and the poor lay off towards the end.

Very well? He was adequate and that's about it as far as it goes. The miss 2nd half was terrible, he was virtually unmarked.

even that miss was on the weaker foot.. the control was good and the raw materials are there along with a few brain cells which are missing from Babel

he was strong, he held it very well, he rushed that chance but overall i thought he played very well against a strong french team

:-D funnily enough those realy are two out of three scenes I can remember.

The other one was the brilliant skill he used to nutmeg their defender in his own box which I though was pretty impressive...

The ball came straight back from him many many times. I'm not blaming him, he did what he could but really didn't play that well.

In a game where players were taking the safe option, be it longer balls or not making runs, he was prepared to take the ball in a one on one/two situation and make a go at turning them. Others didnt have faith in their team mates and instead held their positon because they were afraid of the move breaking down and getting caught out of position rather than forcing Lyon to track our runs and give our players a few runs to hit.

Perhaps thats a symptom of a bad patch on top of Gerrard and Torres being out.

Anyway, its no stick to beat Ngog with.

Perhaps he means that with balls that could have decapitated him when there was no one within 20 yards, he got 1 or 2 of those balls down and layed them off when others would have just let them float over their heads and berate the guilty party supplying the ball.

Disagree with a lot in this thread. I thought he had a poor game and didn't hold the ball up well at all.

It was a big ask to play him up front on his own with so little experience. He was on a hiding to nothing. Those playing around him didn't exactly help him out.

He's going to need to strengthen up, he gets knocked off the ball far too easily.

If people thought he had a good game tonight, then we have become easily pleased. He was average and never looked like scoring. Having said that the threat/service from our midfield is dire - Yossi aside.

You can only judge him on supply.

Andy Cole was charged with missing 7 chances before scoring one.

Ngog had little to play off but when he got it to feet, he looked to do something creative rather than bottle it and play it 30 yards backwards to the free player in midfield.

He is being judged on that, his inexperience, his age, the team's performance, the importance of the match, the opposition, the situation with the crowd and losses - he didnt hide.

I like the lad. Intelligent player who will improve with experience. Did well most of the time when given the ball. Some nice touches and unfortunately a couple of poor ones when he had chances but overall he did well.

andy cole and ngog. yeah, they're similar standards. i'd f***ing kill to have andy cole as an option.

Ngog had nothing to work off of and did his best. Cole was considered a bad striker in his early Utd days because he needed 7 chances to score.

Supply, Ngog had none and even when a decent player gets some, he still misses.

Ngog did well with what he got.
