another defeat and it exposed another thing which we always had rammed down our throats about squad depth.. I do not think we can win the league this season and should concentrate on the cups..I do not think we can ever win the league with the Americans in charge and the type of investment we need should be on Man City level to really win it. Last season was a one off and this season our squad depth has deteriorated..

I think we will do well to finish in the top four this year and we are weaker than last year and couldn't win it then. Rafa has messed up the last two summers in the transfer market and it is costing us now.

Lisandro Lopez should have been signed last year instead of Keane imo and he should have used the money he spent on Dossena and Riera to get a top wide player. Insua had already played in the first team when Dossena arrived and Arbeloa, Carra and Agger could all have covered if Aurelio and Insua were out. This year he replaced Alonso with a player who is not available until November and we are struggling in midfield because of it. I love Rafa but he has only signed one quality attacker in five years here and that is Torres and that is what is costing us.

I'm pessimistic. City are the main rivals, but Villa, Spurs and Sunderland are pretty handy - advantage there being that they'll take points off the other "top 4" as well.

the biggest reason for that is we cannot compete with lack of investment.. last season out net outlay was nonexistent.. things cannot improve that.. we are actually preparing for failure and failure which would take us to our lowest ebb is probably the only way we can get rid of these two b******s

We need to stop talking about the league and just play the game in front of us. Either despair or hubris can be a massive distraction.

The moment we had to balance the transfer budget I stopped expecting us to be up there with a real chance of winning the league.

Not giving up though. Nor do I think that Rafa is infallible, but that 3rd attacking star is what we needed.
