JGL Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 Was just watching this video (which is great btw): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nfFi-_Hb2A The more I think about it, the more amazing it seems how we managed to win that game, let alone the whole competition. Bo Benn Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 While I do agree with your sentiments to a certain degree you've pretty much hand-picked the worst players in our team and the best players in Juve's. The s***tyness of Baros and particularly Riise is sometimes exaggerated on the this forum I feel. Wouldn't mind having Milan as backup striker ahead of a few others in our current squad. Riise, a long serving member of this club, played countless very good games for us. He did go a bit bad during his last years with us - we have definitely upgraded with Insua and Aurelio, but still... I think Benayoun has become the replacement of Garcia that we hoped he would be. Took a season or two for him to reach that point but I'm quite happy with him now and he isn't a helluva lot worse than Garcia was back then.

He did put Zlatan in Juve's one to be fair. *Thanks for missing the sitter at Anfield and in Turin if you're reading Zlatan* *Oh and thanks for missing about 3 sitters in the San Siro the other year* *But shame on you for missing those sitters against Man Utd last season*
Des Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 he isn't a helluva lot worse than Garcia was back then. A "helluva" lot better shirley?
JGL Posted October 16, 2009 Author Posted October 16, 2009 What struck me is how differently you look at things now and then. Looking back now half of our team looks garbage while Juve seems to have a number of world-class players. But buck then, I remember thinking we had at least a 50 per cent chance going in to the tie. Kind of shows how boss Rafa, Stevie, Carra and Sami were.
richwilks Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 Le Tallec had a cracker that night. Only one he did have though.
Dan Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 Benni's far, far better than Luis, IMO. Rafa's second best piece of cheap business (after Reina)
David Hodgson Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 He has, this calendar year, been significantly better. Too right. Different league of player.
anny road Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 that was a wonderful night as for luis, he had his faults but I loved him....he had balls

But it was a cracking perfromance. And a brilliant backs to the wall performance in the 2nd leg.
