Kahnee Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 More staggering is the fact the Tranmere board thought he was up to the job
pipnasty Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 It's a real shame that as I always wanted Digger to do well and always thought that he would do well. He doesn't appear to be up to it though.
The Hitman Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 Gutted for him.Far too nice to be a top boss, lovely bloke.
Cunny Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 Rumour is that his teamtalk week in, week out only ever consisted of"You've got to hold and give, but do it at the right time, you can be slowor fast, but you must get to the line...".
downunder Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 McAteer's gone as well.....obviously. And the physio is in charge!!!
Mike Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 McAteer's gone as well.....obviously.that doesn't bother me,he's a c***

Gomez Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 More staggering is the fact the Tranmere board thought he was up to the job Sadly that is not at all staggering, given the chances repeat failures like Bryan Robson, Roy Keane, et al get over and over again, just because they were good footballers.
Sir_Bob_Paisley Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 Was told that he just sat in his office most of the day and left MacAteer to it. Wonderful player, one of the best we've ever had but should steer clear of management
charlie clown Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 It's a real shame that as I always wanted Digger to do well and always thought that he would do well. He doesn't appear to be up to it though. Exactly, there is no one I would rather see do great things in football management than him, but he appears to be shockingly bad at it. Maybe he should start making ice cream or selling sheds or summat.
Hightown Phil Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 I misread this thread title. D's and n's kids, d's and n's.
Cam Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 McAteer's gone as well.....obviously.Would be unfair to mention Ernest Blenkinshop's assertion back in June that he could be a very good coach?
Tommok Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 I misread this thread title. D's and n's kids, d's and n's. oh dear.
fabfive Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 Sorry to see him get the sack but it was inevitable as it was Sky and the media who kept questioning him about it, which means fans keep talking about it and pestering the Chairman. Tranmere isn't the only club to be near or at the bottom of the table why doesn't Sky go after every manager in the bottom three and repeat for a few weeks when are you getting the sack. Eventually they all will. When the media start in, it is inevitable really. Few survive the inquest.
Falconhoof Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 Would be unfair to mention Ernest Blenkinshop's assertion back in June that he could be a very good coach? you memory foam mattress! I did aswell.Still, I only said it would be unfair to prejudge his coaching ability. Hindsight has been unkind to me there.
Duncan Disorderly Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 I misread this thread title. D's and n's kids, d's and n's.Are you Bruce Forsyth? Bang goes your knighthhod.
RP Posted October 9, 2009 Posted October 9, 2009 ... but should steer clear of management Massive call that. Controversial.
carrafan Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 Wonderful player, one of the best we've ever had but should steer clear of management He did well with Jamaica to be fair. Didnt Tranmere lose a lot of players and had problems even fielding out a half decent side. If they even manage to not get relegated this year, would be a great achievement for them. I'd be surprised if the next manager who comes in does any better results wise. But yeah, if John was sacked because he simply didnt have the basic managerial skills to set out a team, the board was right to sack him but i really doubt that. The manager's the easiest scapegoat to replace usually.
David Hodgson Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 Notwithstanding that maybe Tranmere shouldn't have hired Barnes in the first place, sacking him after 7 games seems like a ridiculous knee jerk. It's as if they really doubted the appointment in the first place. Why take him on and then ditch him before he's bedded in ? Insanity.
muleskinner Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 Just read this morning that Peter Johnson told Barnes on Thursday he was keeping his job and then sacked him after attending a fans forum that night.
magic melia Posted October 10, 2009 Posted October 10, 2009 Lads in work are moaning about another ex Liverpool player getting them relagated
