floyd Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 (edited) • Gillet points to £128m investment in last 18 months• American questions Benítez's scouting and recruitment Liverpool's co-owner George Gillett has defended his and Tom Hicks's reign at Liverpool and pointed the finger at the manager, Rafael Benítez, after a disappointing start to the season. Liverpool's defeat at Chelsea on Sunday was their third in the Premier League this season and followed a 2-0 reverse at Fiorentina in the Champions League. Gillett pointed to the investment he and Hicks have made when saying the owners were not responsible for any shortcomings. "We have invested more money than our competitors, in keeping with the history of the club," he is quoted as telling a representative of the fans' group Spirit of Shankly last week. "In the last 18 months, we have invested £128m on top of what has come in. "That means it should be getting better. Now if it's not getting better, it's not Gillett and Hicks; it's the manager; it's the scouting. You have to make sure you balance out your analysis. There was plenty of money, so if you have any complaints, take a look at the ins and outs." Gillett said the £30m from Xabi Alonso's sale to Real Madrid "went straight back" into Bénitez's kitty and added to funds of "£22-23m as part of our budgets". The American also claimed that Liverpool are "in an extraordinarily good financial position. Far better than Manchester United, Chelsea or Arsenal." Guardian Just a rehash of that interview with that lad of TLW, but at least it's out in the open that Gillett is a lying tw4t Edited October 6, 2009 by floyd
Ramón Benítez Hernández Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 I wish someone would stick a spade in Gilett's anus within 60 days.
Stevie H Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 SOS needs to respond to this pointing out that this is just the latest in a string of lies from the owners designed to discredit the manager, deceive the fans and undermine the club's future. it's in the mainstream media now so build on it. the financials are easily disproved as we know.
Ramón Benítez Hernández Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 (edited) Very classy of him to hammer Rafa in the press. Edited October 6, 2009 by B.A.Baracus
YNWAdownunder Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 We're gonna lose Rafa' if this keeps up. The day we loose rafa we are in real strife if the americans stay in charge what manager would work with those tossers?

spacemonkey Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Very classy of him to hammer Rafa in the press. Except that he didn't. Not really particularly keen to defend the guy but in this instance, he's agreed to talk to the fella off TLW who then wrote up his recollection of that conversation which hardly looked like it was 100% word for word. That's fine because it was meant to be read in its entirety by fans on that forum and others but it's not really the sort of thing which the Guardian should be taking quotes from out of context. Because of that context, the passage in question hardly caused much reaction on here when the whole interview was linked. I, like most others I think, paid more attention to the fact that Gillett seemed awfully quick to put blame on his partner, including for the spade in the ground comments which I can only ever remember hearing from Gillett himself, and then also the strange reaction that he had to the question as to why the two of them didn't just fund the stadium themselves, sort of sending confused signals to the effect that on the one hand sensible investment isn't done that way but on the other hand his "I'm not going to get into that" suggests he'd be happy to do it but his partner... Ok sod it - he's not very classy, no.
Gomez Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 He's convinced me, he's right. Get rid of Rafa and put Klinsman in charge, it's the only way we'll ever win the league [one]
kop205 Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Gillett said the £30m from Xabi Alonso's sale to Real Madrid "went straight back" into Bénitez's kitty and added to funds of "£22-23m as part of our budgets". That would be the 'Fund the pay-rise for Kuyt, Agger, Gerrard and Torres kitty' again then pesumably? Cos it certainly wasn't the f***ing transfer kitty. Suppose each of them got a £20,000 per wekk a pay rise. That is about £1m per year, per player - so £4m. Surely that is more than budgeted for by the fact that we are no longer paying wages to Alonso, Arbeloa, Sami, Pennant and Leto - which at a very modest estimated average of £30,000 perr week works out as about £7.5m we are saving this year. In other words, we're actually about £3.5m up - at least. January should be exciting then boys and girls because by my reckoning we have about £56m to spend! I hope he sits on it though and adds it to the £20m that we'll get in the summer (because this is what he always gets, George said so, it must be true) and then we#ll have almost £80m to spend! f***ing lying w*****s, make me sick.
Mike Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 it shouldn't be difficult to hang him out to dry with this
Stevie H Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 it shouldn't be difficult to hang him out to dry with thisit shouldn't. my main concern at the minute though is that from the perspective of neutrals our owners simply aren't that bad when compared with others, which makes them less newsworthy. still think there's something in using that FA fit and proper person test to call them to order over defrauding fans though.
Boca Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Sky have picked up on this now as well. Could be a good opportunity to get a spokesman for SOS to respond and get some national coverage on the fans view of Gillett and Hicks.
Chili Palmer Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 it shouldn't be difficult to hang him out to dry with this Its a great opportunity.
yellow jumper Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Just a rehash of that interview with that lad of TLW, but at least it's out in the open that Gillett is a lying tw4t how's it out in the open? the agenda in that report is benitez, there's nothing in it to disabuse the uniformed reader that what gillett is saying is spin.
Jonesy Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 I'm sure he works in the same call centre as Phil "Phil Brown" Brown.
Stevie H Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Sky have picked up on this now as well. Could be a good opportunity to get a spokesman for SOS to respond and get some national coverage on the fans view of Gillett and Hicks.could use that charlatan at portsmouth as an example of owners who lie and talk incessant bullsh*t about club finances and their commitment to fans and club. portsmouth is the story this week but we could piggyback it.
Hassony Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 i just wonder if one of his people has been listening to 606 and talksport told gillett that the fans are turning against Rafa and its a good opportunity for him put the knife into Rafa
Mike Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 i just wonder if one of his people has been listening to 606 and talksport told gillett that the fans are turning against Rafa and its a good opportunity for him put the knife into Rafa yeah, that's what's happened.
johngibo YPC Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Great timing from the little prick This was a private conversation between GG and an SOS memberIt is SOS who have decided to leak it
richwilks Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 Sounds like Gillett is getting sick of the abuse he's getting. Take it up a notch, as someone said "stick a spade in his anus"
Dan Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 This was a private conversation between GG and an SOS memberIt is SOS who have decided to leak it OK, just great timing in general then
