CarraLegend Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Cant wait for this. Cav, Johnson, Greek, Agger, Aurelio, Babel, Lucas/Masch, Spearing, Riera, Gerrard, Ngog would be nice. Though I expect we'll see the s**** like Degen and Voronin.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 No Torres or Gerrard please, we cant rotate them in the league so do it in the Carling Cup.
CarraLegend Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 No Torres or Gerrard please, we cant rotate them in the league so do it in the Carling Cup. Are they going to die if they play 60 minutes?
Rory Fitzgerald Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 The paucity of our bench since the start of the season demonstrates our current lack of any real quality back up. Therefore, with the Carling Cup the least attractive competition, then I would use it as a chance to rest the stronger players because when you look at the replacements, they are no inspiring. Ressies, 1 to 11.

A few changes understandably, if its everyone with all the dross and kids playing I'll be very disappointed. Edited September 20, 2009 by CarraLegend

Sion Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Degen and Voronin will have to play unfortunately. Need to keep their match fitness up in case they're needed and no point playing Johnson or Torres. Hopefully we'll see a few of the likes of Pacheco or Amoo at least on the bench though.
Gomez Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 If I'm honest, I am a bit fed up a treating this and the FA Cup as second rate trophies, putting all our eggs in the PL and CL baskets and ending the season in May with nothing whilst chelsea and the scum are chasing trebles and quadruples. I know it is pragmatic, given our relative budgets, but it is p*ssing me off. And think if we absolutely can't play the first team, I'd rather have kids hungry to impress than Voronin (and Degen and others) moodily going through the motions.
stressederic Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 That might be a touch harsh on Degen. He's made of glass but I've not seen anything that suggests his attitude is off.
Alonso Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Cavalieri Degen Kyrgiakos Agger Aurelio Babel Spearing Plessis Riera Voronin NGog Subs: Gulacsi Kelly Ayala Mascherano Dossena Pacheco Kuyt
Gomez Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 That might be a touch harsh on Degen. He's made of glass but I've not seen anything that suggests his attitude is off. It might be harsh, but he's not covered himself in glory in the few matches we have seen him, and ultimately, Degen has no future at this club. Even if this new quota system wasn't coming in, I'd expect him to be off if anyone bids for him, but with the quota, he is finished. If we are not going all out to win this match / tournament, I'd rather see a kid who might gain something from the experience.
muleskinner Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Leeds will be well up for this, it will be a tough match with the form they are in.
Guest PaulMcC Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 I'd play CavalieiriKellyAurelioAyalaAggerSpearingMasheranoAmooPachecoRieraN'Gog
CarraLegend Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 Kelly cant play unfortunately, at the u20 world cup.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 One of Kelly/Ayala to play alongside Carra, they could do with games alongside a leader like Carra. Aurelio to play and so too Degen. Like it or not, Degen is back up to Johnson. Spearing in midfield with Babel on the right. Pacheco and Voronin competing for a place supporting Ngog (he has to play). Pacheco to develop for the future or Voronin because he is a part of our team now and will be needed - I'll go with Pacheco. Voronin shows little drive in the Prem, he'll be almost decomposing by the 90th min if he plays with kids in this cup. Ngog upfront. Thats my view
Cam Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 I'd probably play Babel up front to see if his very, very, very slight upturn in form can be boosted with a game in his favourite position. I'd also play Aurelio in central midfield just in case Aquilani has a setback.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 I would highly support a midfield role for Aurelio, he offered a fascinating insight into his ability vs Pompey away last season.
Gunga Din Posted September 20, 2009 Posted September 20, 2009 I'd play CavalieiriKellyAurelioAyalaAggerSpearingMasheranoAmooPachecoRieraN'Gog that team would get destroyed. i'd give Reina a restI'd play Carra and Skrtel, christ knows they need the gametime and match practice. Degan at RB, Dossena at LBmidfield of kuyt, Masch, Lucas and ReiraBenayoun Babel Leeds a re no mugs, and its been a while since we won something. i dont want to go to Leeds and lose

A Danish international, Argie captain, Spanish international and some decent youth players would be destroyed by a 2nd tier team ? I am sure there are no mugs in the English leagues but we dont have the squad to compete over the season in 4 comps. We can give all them a good go and get knocked out or we can prioritise with the added benefit of giving some younger players their chance to impress the manager of Liverpool Football Club, and if they fail ........................ Going out to Spurs last year only hurt because of the paucity of the performance of some of our back up players.
