Chili Palmer Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 When is he expected to make his debut? Any updates on his injury? It was originally sometime in October wasn't it, then Rafa said a few weeks back that he was progressing quicker than they expected. so hopefully a few weeks away?
Dee Posted September 14, 2009 Author Posted September 14, 2009 just getting your attention! (plus i copied and pasted his name ... )
Sion Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 Rafa said in the press conference Journalist: What's the latest on Alberto Aquiliani and when is he likely to return to training? He has improved and is much better. We think that in two or three weeks he can maybe train and we will see how he progresses. The last scan was really good so we will see. ---- I said a while back i reckon we'll see him make his debut after the next international break. So against Sunderland on the 17th of October.

Spilly Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 I'm looking at post Xmas. Before that is a bonus.

Spilly Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 That glass is definately not full!! Not really. Why put extra pressure on the lad? He hasn't played a full game for a while and will need time to get back to full match sharpness. He should be eased back, especially given he's playing in a completely new league and culture.
Mike Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 gerrard s*** hot in the centre on satdee. still managed to be the fulcrum and the creator.

Spilly Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 I like the look of Lucas and Gerrard together. Lucas in his most natural role and Gerrard seems to rise to the added responsibility.

Knox_Harrington Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 Thought Torres looked totally detached from the game on Saturday. The link to him was missing. Having said that I thought Lucas and Gerrard both played very well. I don't think Masch/Gerrard works as Masch needs someone to help him get the game ticking over and it too easily leads to Gerrard being next to him, not ahead of him. I'd go Lucas/Gerrard at home before I'd go Masch/Gerrard against rubbish, bottom ten sides. Once Aquilani is fit it'll be two from three there and Gerrard back up top far more often that not. Would expect and hope it's Masch/Lucas away at West Ham. Won three nil with them in the centre and Geg/Tog last season and we don't want gaps.
Spilly Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 I meant when he's paired with Lucas he looks quite protective of him and more tactically aware. There's just no doubting his game from that position at all, and as we saw on Saturday the link up with Torres is still very much in effect coming from deep and we look like a far more potent attacking unit overall. Obviously with Aqualini back we'll have even more options but I'd like to see a similar set up at home throughout the season, with Stevie as the driving force.
Spilly Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 Thought Torres looked totally detached from the game on Saturday. The link to him was missing. Felt that myself. When watching the game back I noticed that Dirk was dropping off far too deep leaving Torres isolated. If Kuyt is going to play through the middle he needs to work around the main striker.

richwilks Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 heard on the radio the other day - torres record at home = 33 games 30 goals (in the league i think) Not even 1 in 1. Awful player.
surf Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 (edited) wow, he looks so much better in capitals (he'll be great for those difficult away games in london) Edited September 14, 2009 by surf
Rory Fitzgerald Posted September 14, 2009 Posted September 14, 2009 I remember when we bought Didi Hamann, he played the opener against Sheff Wed away and was then injured for about 2 months - hopefully when he leaves Alberto will be held in such high esteem as Der Kaizer.
