fyds Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 ...Diego Maradonna. Fantastic footballer, dodgy human being, totally sh*t manager. Lost to Paraguay 1-0 and were lucky to get '0'.
New York Red Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Ohhhhhhhhh yes siree. An absolute tw*t. Serves the Argies right for falling for the bizarre national adulation that he receives. But is he really the reason why they have been sh*t? They've got such a great squad.
cymrococh Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 An absolute tw*t. Serves the Argies right for falling for the bizarre national adulation that he receives.Bizarre? He's the best footballer ever, he won them the world cup, partly by scoring the best goal ever. If he were English I dread to imagine the kind of adulation he'd receive.
Stevie H Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Bizarre? He's the best footballer ever, he won them the world cup, partly by scoring the best goal ever. If he were English I dread to imagine the kind of adulation he'd receive.england fans save their adulation for a bloke who has sold lots of shirts and boots, had lots of haircuts, has a popstar wife and who took the occasional good free-kick. argentina fans save their adulation for a genius who won a world cup practically by himself. NYR, you're not really a football fan if you're happy to see a world cup without messi and the potential for grudge matches that argentina bring.
Nebraska Red Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 they have great players, they don't have a great team. too much reliance on Messi and the rest of the eleven do not step up when needed.
cymrococh Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 NYR, you're not really a football fan if you're happy to see a world cup without messi and the potential for grudge matches that argentina bring.+ you're not really Welsh if you don't think what Maradona did to England is absolutely fantastic.
Stevie H Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 + you're not really Welsh if you don't think what Maradona did to England is absolutely fantastic.haha! good point well made.
cymrococh Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 I'm pretty sure Cardiff City fans sing "Argentina" whenever they play an English team. Swansea fans definitely do.
Benzo-13 Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 they have great players, they don't have a great team. too much reliance on Messi and the rest of the eleven do not step up when needed. If El Diego could manage to pick a decent pair of experienced centre-backs and goalkeeper plus start Milito regularly he'd be already qualified. He rates players that play in Argentina currently far too highly.
Swipe Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 The adulation he gets from his country is bizarre?? Dear me! If they greatest player to ever play the game, the reason we're even on this forum, doesn't deserve "adulation" then something is wrong. But he's proving a very poor coach. He's not even tactically naive - he doesn't seem to even consider tactics. Just lumps 11 players on the pitch and hopes his best ones do something. I think he'll get replaced very soon. Be a damn shame if Argentina and Messi aren't at the World Cup.
sean Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 He hasn't a notion in his head. Played two small skilful players up top against a very physical and competent defensive outfit in Paraguay.
johngibo YPC Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 I love Maradona In fact i'm going to youtube him now
smithdown Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 argentina fans save their adulation for a genius who won a world cup practically by himself. I don't think we'll ever see a World Cup that was so great in its own right yet so dominated by the presence of one player again. It was the best summer of football that I've ever seen.
The Hitman Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Tell you what though,I'm watching the game with Paraguay at the moment, and they look a terrific side.Battering the Argies, who I really hope sort it out and make it to the tournament.Diego,or no Diego.
Stevie H Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 managerially he's reminiscent of kevin keegan. thinks you can just send out eleven decent players and it'll be OK.
The Hitman Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Unfair on Keegan, that. You're talking about a man that was within a whisker of winning the Premiership, and comparing him with a bloke who,now that Peter Reid has resigned from Thailand and Digger from Jamaica, might well be the worst coach in international football.
Sion Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Unfair on Keegan, that. You're talking about a man that was within a whisker of winning the Premiership, and comparing him with a bloke who,now that Peter Reid has resigned from Thailand and Digger from Jamaica, might well be the worst coach in international football. ''yer what laddie''
Raj Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 ''yer what laddie'' haha. to be fair to burley, the scotland squad is so limited its incredible.they must have the least mobility of any team that I have seen.
The Hitman Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 I feel very sorry for Burley,he's not a terrible manager.Agree with Roegahnn,it's not his fault they have some absolutely abysmal players. Brown,Fletcher and Hutton are about all they have.

Brown,Fletcher and Hutton are about all they have. Their players are plenty good enough to beat Macedonia and Iceland twice, which is all they would have needed to qualify.
Raj Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Their players are plenty good enough to beat Macedonia and Iceland twice, which is all they would have needed to qualify. They've got no depth to their first team and their first team isnt particularly good anyway. Burley cant escape some of the blame, but Scotlands national team is pretty s***. I dont know if you watched the Macedonia game on Sat, but they were lucky that Macedonia couldnt hit a barn door, otherwise they would have lost 4 or 5-2

NYR, you're not really a football fan if you're happy to see a world cup without messi and the potential for grudge matches that argentina bring. I'm not disagreeing entirely with you but to be fair to Beckham he pulled England out of the mire on quite a number of occasions.
Hassony Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 But is he really the reason why they have been sh*t? They've got such a great squad. they really don't, apart from Messi, Aguero, Mascherano and Zanetti (who is probably too old now) I can't think of any other world class players in the team Veron is clearly past it, Tevez doesn't score, their defence and keeper are s**** any idea why Higuin isn't playing? and is cambiasso injured?
Red Kent Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Argentina should be in the World Cup, however I hope they dont make it as I couldn't hate their manager anymore even if he was in charge of the Mancs.
