psl Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 (edited) http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N...090907-1558.htm RAFA'S MESSAGE FOR FRUSTRATED STARS Paul Eaton 07 September 2009 Rafael Benitez today urged Ryan Babel and Albert Riera to do their talking on the pitch after both players expressed frustration over a lack of first team opportunities so far this season. Babel has revealed he would be interested in a loan move to Ajax when the transfer window reopens in January, while Riera made only his first start of the campaign at Bolton last weekend. Benitez insists both players will get chances to shine over the coming months - and that it will then be down to them to seize the opportunities which come their way. "Albert and Ryan both want to play," said Benitez. "They play in the same position and so have to compete with each other, which is good for us. "The message is very simple. On the pitch all of the players have to prove something. "Ryan knows he cannot go now, so he has to impress. He is a good player and we know he has talent. It's important for us to talk with him and see how he progresses over these months. "With the World Cup at the end of the year the majority of our players will want to impress and if they do well in each training session they will have more chances." Edited September 7, 2009 by psl
D.Boon Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 I think the only person that can make Babel get his head down and play is himself. And therein lies the problem.
Red Kent Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Rafa is not blameless in this, and I dont like a manager coming out in public and slating the players.
D.Boon Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Rafa is not blameless in this, and I dont like a manager coming out in public and slating the players. Not slated them though has he. And in Babels case a public flaying would be more appropriate.
johngibo YPC Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Rafa is not blameless in this, and I dont like a manager coming out in public and slating the players. Calm down sweetheart he's not slating anyoneAnd they went to the papers, not him

Malcolm X Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Rafa is not blameless in this, and I dont like a manager coming out in public and slating the players. Here you go again. I am not in the least bit surprised by your post.
Dan Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Babel is a nob. He needs babysitting by the sounds of it. We need to get rid asap.
Frosty Jack Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Rafa is not blameless in this, and I dont like a manager coming out in public and slating the players. oh f*** off
Red Kent Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 So Rafa is not blameless then ? And it's ok for a manager to critcise players or go public with things that should be left in the dressing room ?
Dominus Maximus Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Babel is a striker. Playing him at left mid, will always produce weak performances. Rafa should know better by now.
Hassony Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 So Rafa is not blameless then ? And it's ok for a manager to critcise players or go public with things that should be left in the dressing room ? here is your answer
Earl Hafler Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 So Rafa is not blameless then ? And it's ok for a manager to critcise players or go public with things that should be left in the dressing room ? If you read the quotes, Rafa is actually motivating both players. They're not the words of a manager slating his players in public
Red Kent Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Blameless for what? he hasnt done anything. Exactly, he could of done a lot more. I dont like airing dirty linen in public, if Rafa wants Babel and Reira to perform better, he should not use the media as a tool. If a team plays well, the manager gets the credit, so if it plays poorly why should the manager blame the players and not look at himself as well ?

Red Kent Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 have you read what he said? is he blaming Babel and Reira for the team playing poorly? No, but he blamed his senior players the other week. Or is that not allowed to be discussed in this post ?
Rimbeux Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 Babel is a striker. Playing him at left mid, will always produce weak performances. Rafa should know better by now. Drop Torres!
Hassony Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 No, but he blamed his senior players the other week. Or is that not allowed to be discussed in this post ? it seemed to have worked, both Torres and Gerrard gave an improved performance against Bolton

Red Kent Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 it seemed to have worked, both Torres and Gerrard gave an improved performance against Bolton You think ? Gerrard only came into his own after the sending off when he had more freedom. Torres is getting better with each game. I just dont like managers using the media to get points across to players, that's all.
Flight Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 I reckon Rafa wanted to sell Babel and playing him in the first game was putting him in the shop window. Backfired on us as Babel had one of his worst games in the shirt.
Tones Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 No, but he blamed his senior players the other week. Or is that not allowed to be discussed in this post ? Youre just being too picky about the manager for some reason. Hes done nothing wrong here at all.
