baz2107 Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Does anyone know when the Champions League Squad has to be decided as I think we're going to be in a similar situation to last year in terms of having to leave an experienced player or 2 out of our 17 overseas players, who would people leave out?
GWistooshort Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 (edited) Squad for the Group Stages had to be submitted to UEFA yesterday (see par 18.13 of http://www.uefa.com/MultimediaFiles/Downlo...7_DOWNLOAD.pdf) Should be posted HERE shortly Edited September 2, 2009 by GWistooshort
Sion Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Surely it'll just be like last year bar one or two changes. Aquilani for Alonso, Johnson for for a locally trained kid, Kyriakos for Arbeloa, Insua for someoneWill be interesting to see if Insua is now classed as club trained or if we have to wait till January?
_00_deathscar Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 We have to wait till January for Insua - be great though, we can claim him as one of our own
GWistooshort Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Will be interesting to see if Insua is now classed as club trained or if we have to wait till January? We have to wait until Jan because the rules say he has to be registered with us for a period of 3 entire seasons or 36 months between the ages of 15 & 21 to qualify as locally trained & because he joined in the Jan transfer window, 36 months occurs first Par 18.10 http://www.uefa.com/MultimediaFiles/Downlo...77_DOWNLOAD.pdf
GWistooshort Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Here's my guess........... 1 Reina2 Cavalieri3 Johnson (locally trained)4 Carragher (locally trained)5 Agger 6 Škrtel7 Kyrgiakos8-9 Two of Aurélio, Dossena & Insua10 Darby (locally trained)11 Irwin (locally trained)12 Kelly (locally trained)13 Kuyt14 Benayoun15 Aquilani16 Mascherano17 Lucas18 Spearing (locally trained)19 Riera20 Babel 21 Gerrard (locally trained)22 Torres 23 N'Gog24 Voronin25 Eccleston (locally trained)
baz2107 Posted September 2, 2009 Author Posted September 2, 2009 think I'd agree with that, its just whether Rafa think Darby is enough cover for Johnson or whether he wants to go with Degen, if so I could potentially see Agger missing out due to fitness and him coming back in January when Insua is locally trained
GWistooshort Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 You know you must have injury problems when Degen's getting the nod ahead of you on fitness!
baz2107 Posted September 2, 2009 Author Posted September 2, 2009 True!! But Rafa saying that it was good news that Agger had started walking again yesterday is making me think he could be out for a while
Big Sami Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 You know you must have injury problems when Degen's getting the nod ahead of you on fitness!
Hassony Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 when is aurelio coming back? I guess it will have to be dossena and insua in the squad until january Atleast
Kvarme Ate My Food Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 when is aurelio coming back? I guess it will have to be dossena and insua in the squad until january Atleast Sky were saying yesterday that he might be back for Burnley

GWistooshort Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 when is aurelio coming back? Official site says Rafa "is hoping his Brazilian full-back will have made a complete recovery by the time Burnley come to Anfield on September 12" http://www.liverpoolfc.tv/news/drilldown/N...090901-0805.htm
surf Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 insua is under-21, so he can play without being registered (or is that only on footy manager?)
GWistooshort Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 (edited) insua is under-21, so he can play without being registered (or is that only on footy manager?) UEFA's rules say you have to have 8 locally trained players in your 25-man squad irrespective of age & that a player has to be registered with his club for a period of 3 entire seasons or 36 months between the ages of 15 & 21 to qualify as locally trained Insua joined in Jan 2007 so will qualify in Jan next year http://www.uefa.com/MultimediaFiles/Downlo...77_DOWNLOAD.pdf Edited September 2, 2009 by GWistooshort
Cunny Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 IMO Sami should get get his place back. and Luis Garcia
surf Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 i think insua can be registered to play on "list b", in accordance with article 18.16
GWistooshort Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 i think insua can be registered to play on "list b", in accordance with article 18.16 looks like you're right well spotted
GWistooshort Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 I think Ayala & Plessis & Dean Bouzanis & Martin Hansen are all eligible for List B this season as well as Insua Ngog & Gulacsi should be eligible for the B list from next season The Guardian today reckons Man Utd have 10 players on their B List, including Anderson & Johnny Evans, giving them a total squad of 35 players for the Champions League
Philby Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 Any sign of this squad? United have announced theirs. Hargreaves in, Tosic out.
Bo Benn Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 We should announce ours just before kick-off. To keep em guessing.
Gilps Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 Not like there's going to any surprises, is there? The first team squad's so thin, we can include everybody and still have room for as many kids as we need to fill the quota.
