Red Kent Posted September 1, 2009 Posted September 1, 2009 To me there are only two contenders, City and Spurs. Part of me wants City as it would piss off United. The other part thinks it would be Spurs as Redknapp has got a pretty decent squad there. So, I reckon that if one of those two were to break into the top four, I would much rather it be Spurs.

Red Kent Posted September 2, 2009 Author Posted September 2, 2009 So who's gonna drop out of the top 4 to make way? The million dollar question.
fyds Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 I reckon the top four will be exactly the same - the order might change, but otherwise that's it. Modric has a broken leg, and City have struggled a fair bit and will lose the plot at times. Over 38 games I don't think either team will hold up to making the top 4.
Stevie H Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 So who's gonna drop out of the top 4 to make way?three months ago i'd have said arsenal were most likely. now i think we're most under threat. and city are a very real threat to the top four this season, definitely more than spurs are.

Agree with this. A long term injury to Gerrard or Torres and we could be in real trouble.

Would agree with that. City have genuine depth. I'm concerned about how vulnerable we are to injuries
Stevie H Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Would agree with that. City have genuine depth. I'm concerned about how vulnerable we are to injuriespeople keep underestimating hughes too, he's not a mug at all. their squad has a lot of class and depth to it now, senior players who have been around a bit and they've also brought in the leadership they were missing last season. city will more than likely buy in january too, we can't and won't. united and chelsea could buy in january if needs be, we can't and won't. we're on really thin ice this season. it's worrying.
mick Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 Its far to early to say. City have had a good start to the season by beating 3 teams but when you look at those teams: Blackburn, Portsmouth and Wolves most people would say those three will be in the relegation shake up come the end of the season. Lets give it 10/12 games and see how its shaping up then. My top four prediction for the season:1. Liverpool2. Chelsea3. Mancs4. Arsenal

yellow jumper Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 spurs v united and city v arsenal in the next set of games might be informative. easy to see even the leading teams going into the new year with three or four losses to their name this season.
Ramón Benítez Hernández Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 (edited) I don't give a f*ck as long as we're in the top 4, hopefully 1st. If the Manchester United Globetrotters miss out, it would be a bonus. Edited September 2, 2009 by B.A.Baracus

Chili Palmer Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 part of you would prefer City, part of you would prefer Spurs, so in conclusion you would much rather it be Spurs? 49% thinks City, 51% thinks Spurs. Majority rules.
Kvarme Ate My Food Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 49% thinks City, 51% thinks Spurs. Majority rules. it's the "so" in the original post that gets me. As if the point has been conclusively demonstrated.
spk Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 given the scale of investment we've seen it's almost inevitable citeh break into the top four. they've also a stadium with a greater capacity than ours and with the current owner there are finances in place to increase this further which worringly could mean that they could potentially comply with uefa's wishes within three years.

johngibo YPC Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 they dont own their ground. they rent it from the council. They have a very good deal on itIf they can fill it regulalrly (big if) then they still should be bringing in more than us
D.Boon Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 City look very solid to me. I can see them pushing for the title never mind top four.
Gunga Din Posted September 2, 2009 Posted September 2, 2009 They have a very good deal on itIf they can fill it regulalrly (big if) then they still should be bringing in more than us aye, but they cant make it bigger, as was suggested, it not being theirs an all
growler Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 I think City have the best chance. All the players they have bought have premier league experience, they have players with flair, grit and a point to prove. With the window now shut, if clubs actually scratch the surface of the mancs, I reckon they could be in trouble. Their midfield is now weak, and up front, if Rooney gets injured they are in trouble. They are lucky they still have their reputation so clubs are afraid to attack, otherwise with their defense weakened, they are worth a few points I reckon.
Cam Posted September 3, 2009 Posted September 3, 2009 Chelsea should walk the title. The Mancs will miss Ronaldo so much and seem to be joining us in shopping at Poundland for out-of-date bargains but they'll get by; we're just not that lucky. Redkanpp's built a very good squad on the sly but he'll ruin it in January by shipping out a load and bringing in a bunch of Eastern Europeans bought by his agent pals. City were always going to be up there and if they can get by with the initial boost they've had until Xmas and be there or thereabouts you can't rule them out. And by that I mean rule them out of the title. They could go out and bring in 3 or 4 £30m to £40m players for that final push. Arsenal looked to be dropping and despite the great start I think they will; their squad may be happier with the two stirrers gone but it's paper-thin. But we joined them in the short-list of potentials the moment we sold Alonso; we were so close last year (and just needed strengthening in the wide areas) that any change to the much-celebrated spine of our team was going to rock us. Short of losing Gerrard or Torres, losing Alonso was the player we could least afford to miss; he styled our play and is almost unique. That was so late in the window, the Aquilani question is huge, the thieving of £££ by G&H has hit us, we've one (grumpy) striker, Gerrard & Benitez spatting, no fit or in-form centrebacks, only 1 of the 4 wide areas strengthened and the poor start. I've always railed against having "Top 4" as an aim but I'd take it now. We can all name the teams that will finish top 6 but what should worry the fans of these clubs that may be at risk of dropping out of the Top 4 is if they get 10 points worse and Villa & Everton get 10 points better they could be in a scrap for Top 8.
