First of all, I hate divers, I hate players who try and con the officials for anything.

 

When I first saw the Eduardo dive, I did think it was a pen - until I saw the replay from behind the goal.

 

You cannot blame the ref for giving a pen because from 75-85% of possible angles - it look nailed on.

 

Then i was quite happy for UEFA to charge him with 'conning the ref' or whatever. But as Wenger said, he is expecting charges for every game.

 

Messi did headbut the Doneskt player, the ref missed it but the tv cameras never, much like Eduardo.

 

Is Messi going to be charged ? I doubt it because he's a big player playing for a bigger side than Arsenal.

 

And this is totally wrong, one rule for everyone please.

 

Then we have the Celtic player today, how f***in stupid do you have to be to try and dive like that after all the s*** with Eduardo ?

 

Probably I'm going all around the woods to say that I applaud UEFA for charging Eduardo, but I agree with Wenger as well, what is good for the goose is good for the gander. UEFA have opened a massive can of worms for themselves here.

what makes me chuckle is that the foreign born players who speak little English can all tell the ref to f*** off.

 

It will be interesting to see if UEFA follows through on this diving issue in all of the games they sanction.

 

Where does it stop though? If the ref misses the trip on the player through on goal, do they suspend the offending player after the fact?

Agree that you should be able to get a ban for a blatant dive. Also agree that both UEFA and FIFA sometimes sort of make up the rules as they go.

 

Bit strange though, that you could possibly face a retrospective ban for a yellow card offence.

Some appalling bukcket of lard on SSN this morning was going on about it. They analyzed a bunch of penno decisions & decided only Rooney & the Vog (I think) were pens. Torres against Bolton was a dive...

If you can determine whether it's a dive or not at the time of the cheating then fine, but the problem is that it's virtually impossible for the refs to do that. What's more, looking for dives often seems to impair their ability to spot actual fouls which should be penalties.

 

Anyway a 10-minute sin bin probably isn't a sufficiently severe punishment to deter diving - the potential benefit of earning a penalty outweighs the cost so it's worth the risk.

Absolutely absurd. Eduardo given a 2 game ban. Look forward to UEFA doing the same for all players who dive.

 

Edit: and now that Ronaldo is at Real - who in Europe are as untouchable as United are in England - it will be interesting to see what happens next time he takes an inevitable dive...

I'm glad they banned him. It was an obvious dive and the wink after made it stonewall.

 

I'd be infinitley more glad if they do it all the time.

 

They've been doing it for ages for those who stamp (excepting the obvious) on other players.

 

 

After this I want them to start banning the f*****s who blatently deliberately handball.

I'd be pissed that our player dived. Eboue, Eduardo, arsenal have history of it. Its partly down to the club to resolve.
