Rory Fitzgerald Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 (edited) Rafa Benitez fired a blunt message to Ryan Babel yesterday, warning him time is running out to salvage his Liverpool future after his £11.5million move from Ajax two years ago. Ahead of Monday's home game with Aston Villa, Benitez said: 'Ryan has to give something to us this time and he knows it. He will have opportunities to prove himself with so many games coming up, but it is important he has the right mentality. Maybe there were some problems adapting to a new style when he arrived as a young player. He knows what is going on here now and hopefully can perform better. He accepts he has to perform at a different level this year.' Daily Mail Deprived of the transfer funds he so desperately needed to bolster his squad, Rafa Benitez has instead challenged Ryan Babel to fill the void in Liverpool’s attack which many of the club’s fans had hoped would be filled by a glamorous, multi-million pound signing. Babel himself, of course, did not come cheap, arriving just days before Fernando Torres for a fee of £13.5 million and bearing a reputation as one of the most exciting prospects in Europe. In his two years at Anfield, though, the Dutch international has flattered to deceive. Glimpses of his gifts in his first campaign gave way to stagnation in his second. Anything but progress in his third is likely to herald the end of his Liverpool career. “Ryan knows he has to perform this year at a different level,” said Benitez, denied a move for David Silva by Liverpool’s financial woes. “He has to give something this year. He is really focused and wants to improve, and you could see that from the first day of pre-season training. Sometimes players, especially Dutch players, need more time, but now he knows what is going on here.” http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/...cking-void.html Has to be said though, the difference in the reporting is stark. The message is simple, lets step it up but the Mail does not include the softening language that Rafa used to coax Babel instead it looks like a great big stick ! Red Kent Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 He can always go back to singing, not a bad record to be honest.

Rory Fitzgerald Posted August 21, 2009 Author Posted August 21, 2009 (edited) Without going on to YouTube, I reckon it flatters to deceive ............... and then falls over. Edited August 21, 2009 by Rory Fitzgerald
Red Kent Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 Without going on to YouTube, I reckon it flatters to deceive. Dont knock it till you've tried it.
DazzlaJ Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 He's too lightweight/a pussy. No desire to mix it
mathewbet1 Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 Ive given him enough chances, Simply not good enough. Impact sub at best. Never seems to play well when he starts. Never a left winger in a million years.
muleskinner Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 Needs to get angry, he's got the talent and he has shown it.
Jay Blizzay Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 On da real dough, babel and royston drenthe did a track with my main dawg Uniq back in day n ting. Pretty sick track, The Dutch kno' whats up when it comes to hiphop. You can't test their steeze, na'mean?

Rory Fitzgerald Posted August 21, 2009 Author Posted August 21, 2009 Excatly, he's never a winger, he's a forward - give him a few games there. Drop Torres
Red Kent Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 Drop Torres Stranger things have happened......................nah play them together
DazzlaJ Posted August 21, 2009 Posted August 21, 2009 Drop Torres If the bitch let me pick him up I might think about
Magic8Ball Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 He's not a LM, which is where he has to play for us he's a forward in 433 of or striker. TBH I doubt he'd be good enough for us either the things he's best at. We're stuck with him and he's getting a chance to prove us all wrong. TBH I expect him to flatter to deceive then let us down. Where Babel really fails is in mentality and attitude, he just doesn't have the will to impose his "game" on the opposition
floyd the barber Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 "Sometimes players, especially Dutch players, need more time," did rafa really say that ? he must mean all the weed they smoke
_00_deathscar Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 The problem with those suggesting he should be played up front is that he has done absolutely nothing to suggest that he has the brains to make intelligent runs - which, if we were to play him as a lone striker, he would have to be doing.
Bootle Buck Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 He's had plenty of chances. If he hadn't cost 11.6 million he would have been gone by now. He doesn't seem interested when given the chance and is an absolute s***house. Never looks like he has the confidence to beat people. He will be better suited in Holland or Germany.
Tobes Rafa Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Needs to get angry, he's got the talent and he has shown it.Has he though? That's the issue. He can run fast and he can hit it past players before jumping into them. He has even been known to hold on to the ball until he is surrounded by 4 opposition players and manage to hold on to it for about ten seconds before falling flat on his a***. Other than that I have seen very little of him to make me think he will ever make it at a top club in any league.
Falconhoof Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Got 10 goals in his first season, ocasionally he's done something special. There must be a decent player there.
Tobes Rafa Posted August 22, 2009 Posted August 22, 2009 Kevin Davies gets 10 goals a season...........
