Rafa seemed to be after Giannakopoulos for ages but has finally landed another tough to spell name.

 

An underwhelming signing, it might well be but we have a very good first team and signing a big player this late into the transfer window might not happen as selling teams do not have time to replace their big players.

 

A full international with bags of experience, whose not on the down career wise seems to be a good squad player option. We need someone whose good in the air too. Its okay for centrehalves to be slow as long as they have game intelligence. Lets hope this guy does.

Underwhelmed seems to the the common consensus amongst Liverpool fans. He's not the David Silva that many expected we'd sign. I havent seen him play except for a couple of time for Greece and have no idea how good or bad he is. I'm not complaining though, could be great fourth choice CB.

He's coming as 4th choice. Hopefully he'll be okay. Once Agger, Skrtel and Carra are all fit (hoping Agger's problems get sorted) that will give us a very strong trio of centre halves to choose from. If this fella can suplement that and provide experienced back up, and a bit of Hyppia-style aerial presence, that'll do fine.

 

Now on to an attacking signing of some sort!

so will Rafa walk around him at the signing and declare him the Colossus 2?

 

our new back 3, Agger, Skrtel and the new Greek guy, 5 man midfield with Glojo and Insua out wide, Gerarrd and Torrres up front.

Agreed. He'll fit in well for Sammi especially with Agger always injured.

Really lost boy? I thought Rafa said on the official that the medical needs to be done still before the end of the week.

If he has to play against Villa then its a perfect game for him seeing as all they do is punt the ball to Heskey or Carew and he's meant to be a beast in the air.

Reds agree deal for whats his face

 

Liverpool today agreed a deal with AEK Athens for centre-back Sotirios Kyrgiakos, subject to a medical.

The 30-year-old Greek international will arrive at Melwood for a medical examination before the weekend.

 

Rafa Benitez told Liverpoolfc.tv: "We have nearly done the deal subject to a medical. He is a player with experience who can hopefully help us in defence.

 

"He has experience in British football and Rangers. After that with Frankfurt and the national team. He's a good player in the air, strong and aggressive. We were looking for a player with experience.

 

"He will have the medical this week, it has to be before the weekend."

 

On how the signing would impact on young centre-backs such as Martin Kelly and Daniel Ayala, Benitez added: "The young players know they need experience and so to learn alongside people with this experience is better."

he doesn't have to be anything special,once he's a solid pro that's good in the air,we need someone to clean house at corners and freekicks.

the name is too complicated to become a scapegoat.. i think he could make it here

 

but otherwise, its great getting an expirienced 4th choice for only 2,5 distin would have been very good and turner for 12m is sickness.I guess this guy speaks english so it can help him fit in pretty quickly,

Yeh, it was my MIL that was present. She specialises in the 'Coughing' part of it.

To the best of my knowledge, Silva cant play centre half
