Gunga Din Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 i think the forum should adopt a s*** team to follow this season, a team in the lower reaches of the football pyramid, maybe a non league team, or a Scottish 3rd division team, where we can have regular updates and follow their campaign, and maybe even organise a forum day out to go and watch them. i think we should have nominations put forward this week, and a decision on who to adopt taken by a vote during the last week in august. People should put forward no more than one team. teh only rules are that the team should not play in Blue, or have "united" as any part of their name
Falconhoof Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Tranmere because of Digger and because its not far.
Eiler99 Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 I nominate Stirling Albion. There was a post on TLW a while ago from a lad who asked people to donate £40 to help buy the club. This was his post: My team Stirling Albion is currently up for sale. Unless the fans come together to buy out the owner there is a serious risk my team will die. Please help me save it. For full details go to buystirlingalbion.org.uk As you will see from the link above, we are trying to get people to buy a membership for £40 to save our club. All you are risking is £5 as if it doesn't work out, then you will get £35 back and if it does work out, you will own part of our club and help save it. We are collecting old mobile phones for recycling for the campaign. Not only does it help the environment but our cause will benefit by at least £5.00 when you donate your old mobile. It is easy and it costs you nothing to do. Send as many old mobiles (removing sim card first) as you can find to: FREEPOSTRRRA-CZXK-UKEKStirling AlbionVulcan Road NorthNorwichNR6 6AQ. Please join us in the fight to save our team. Reasons for us to support them? Well, they used to be managed by Bob Shankly (Bill's brother) and their old ground was called Anfield.
FakeNewsBear Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 i follow rushden and diamonds every year because the are sh*t........... that is all
Gunga Din Posted August 14, 2009 Author Posted August 14, 2009 Tranmere because of Digger and because its not far. not lower league enough. and most would follow their results anyway
muleskinner Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Good idea Gunga Din, non-league is the way to go, Havant & Waterlooville? I always keep an eye on Hereford Utd due to Mrs Muleskinner being a native of the city and knowing a few lads who follow them everywhere.
Gunga Din Posted August 14, 2009 Author Posted August 14, 2009 Cliftonville they should not be considered on the grounds that my football career ended rather abruptly at their Solitude ground one wet bleak February afternoon in 1996, when i ruptured my achilles for the 2nd time in 9 months
dorgie Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 they should not be considered on the grounds that my football career ended rather abruptly at their Solitude ground one wet bleak February afternoon in 1996, when i ruptured my achilles for the 2nd time in 9 months Although he was not to know it at the time, here's Wayne lining up before what fate was going to decide was to be his final game.............

What an arena to go down in, though! You from N.Ireland mate?
smithdown Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Was going to suggest these but they fail to qualify on two counts: a) they no longer exist b) they weren't sh*t The Glenbuck Cherrypickers were notable for the high number of professional footballers that they produced, despite only existing for around fifty years. Between their creation in the early 1870s, and their demise in 1931, the team produced some fifty professional footballers. This is despite their home - the mining village of Glenbuck - having a population of around 1,000. On a per-capita basis, this is equivalent to a city the size of London producing 50,000 professional footballers every year for half a century.

Ostrich Man Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 CliftonvilleI live 15 seconds walk from them and I wouldnt adopt them.
Swipe Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 I live 15 seconds walk from them and I wouldnt adopt them. Ha! Does Marty Tabb still play for them? He was still playing at about 55 years old last time I paid any attention
smithdown Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 What happened to AFC Liverpool? Did no-one here take an interest last season? I never. They've never even played in the city, afaik.
Tones Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 (edited) Cliftonville hey! Cliftonville arent a s*** team! I nominate Stirling Albion. Well, they used to be managed by Bob Shankly (Bill's brother) and their old ground was called Anfield. Striling Albion for me this year. A few links to our own club and in the middle of a fan buy out, so they would be my choice. Edited August 14, 2009 by t1971
Gunga Din Posted August 14, 2009 Author Posted August 14, 2009 Really? What an arena to go down in, though! You from N.Ireland mate? aye, from South Down. played for Newry for a couple of seasons in the Irish league, although to make that arena even worse, it was a ressie game as i was just getting back after the first rupture, it was a freezing cold day, sleet and a howling wind, and i dont think there was a single spectator at it.
Swipe Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 I always imagine anything that "ruptures" is very painful indeed!
Sion Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 (edited) Southport's assaulton the Conference North or Marine's assault on the Unibond Premier Edited August 14, 2009 by Sion
Chili Palmer Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 aye, from South Down. played for Newry for a couple of seasons in the Irish league, although to make that arena even worse, it was a ressie game as i was just getting back after the first rupture, it was a freezing cold day, sleet and a howling wind, and i dont think there was a single spectator at it. There rarely is at Solitude. The ground should be flattened and just extend the water works. There is better football played on there anyway.
