Cam Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 the first real formation thread of the season. ReinaJohnson Carragher Skrtel InsuaLucas MascheranoKuyt Gerrard RieraTorres Though between now & then I'd be thinking long and hard about dropping Gerrard back in place of Lucas and playing Benayoun behind Torres in a 4-4-1-1.

Yes re the 1st bit, no re the second.
Cam Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 To be honest I think Rafa will play it safe and will consider it; he'll not want to lose and will be thinking "7 points from our first week... they'll be happy with that."
badtodabone Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 ReinaJohnson Carragher Skrtel Insua after all the worriers thats not a bad back line ReinaJohnson Carragher Skrtel InsuaKuyt Lucas Mascherano benayoun Gerrard Torres
SkippyjonJones Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 I think I hate formation threads more that transfer threads. Close call though.
Mike Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 first game of the season, the tradition. the summer lay off, then making plans again with the boys for the journey to the game. the logistics, the pre and post match bevs. don't want to come over all ron manager but man i love it. ooh the excitement.

Leo No.8 Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 Nice to see a few of our lads on the scoresheet last night - Torres, Kuyt and Riera that I know of. On the downside Defoe will be full of confidence come Sunday after his two goals for England. He looked sharp - the prospect of him and Crouch does worry me a bit, Carragher and Skrtel will have to be at their best.

Rory Fitzgerald Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 sutty said: I'd take a draw right now. No way, not after the feeling of late winners in the past 2 seasons vs Villa and Sunderland compared against the draws in the previous 3 seasons; 0-0 at Boro and 1-1 away to Spurs and Sheff Utd. We may very well come out with a draw but after the way we finished last season and knowing the importance of getting a good start, I want to see the lads go for the 3pts. It wont be gung-ho by any nature, but with Torres and Gerrard up front, anything is possible.
schmuckdonald Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 (edited) Genunly think we'll struggle but hopefully snag a winner, and I think Riera will get the nod at LW. EDIT: Rafa has said that Gerrard might not be ready for Sunday, what do you think he'll do if he isn't? Yossi in behind? Edited August 13, 2009 by robmcburger
