don't see where they'd play him. he's no makelele and he's not as good as essien, lampard or ballack in the other midfield roles. be quite happy if chelsea do get him as he'd be as much of a white elephant as deco.

pirlo is a similar player to alonso to be fair.

don't think pirlo has the physicality or the defensive abilities of alonso. he'd need a minder in the english game. see him more like a veron really.

Don't think I've ever seen a footballer look as frightened as much as Pirlo did before he stepped up to miss that penalty against us in Istanbul

Riquelme v. Arsenal is perhaps the textbook example of bottling a penalty. There was zero chance of him converting that.

Wonderful footballer is Pirlo, just think he has been playing the game at a completely different tempo his whole career (a tempo which suits him) so I'd imagine it would be incredibly hard for him to adapt at this age.

I only thought Alonso truly mastered the pace of English football in this last season after five years here, and he joined relatively young (which is why its so galling that he's choosing to leave now).

Another question is why would he choose us over Chelsea when they'd probably offer more money, allow him to live in London and he'd be playing for his old boss whom he has a good relationship with in Ancelotti?

Great player, but any suggestion of him coming here is a total non starter.

If Milan are to be believed, any suggestion of him going to Chelsea is also a total non starter...let's see if money shouts.

Disagree with that. Xabi's second season can be argued as being better than last.
